Check for shorts....but other then that your probe might be f'd.

When I had a short the needle jumped al over the place. Good luck.

Also check to make sure the needle is tight and not barely loose, before I had this problem too and the nut holding down the probe was loose and the probe was jiggling around.

ill try that, but when i turn the car on, and it does its "full sweep" where the needle goes 0 to max, mine only goes 0 to like half..

Gauge is probably failing. If it's an AutoMeter gauge, call them and explain what it's doing. They'll probably ask you to send it in and send you a new one. Walt from AutoMeter is awesome.

Yep, I've had a couple Autometer gauges go bad on me. Their support is great, but I ended up selling the replacement gauges Autozone sent me (brand new in retail boxes, points to Autometer!) and switching to VDO because I couldn't afford Greddy.

Keep in mind your EGT probe is expected to last about as long as an o2 sensor... so replace it every 30k-60k miles or so.

I STRONGLY recommend the TRE probe, which works with any K-type thermocouple system (Autometer, VDO, Greddy, just about everything)

I guarantee you will be floored by how slow your old probe reacted once you install the TRE one.
