Well, about three weeks ago I was working on figuring out what to do to fix some codes my car suddenly started throwing(51 42 42 42 according to "keydance"). Since the tech & info section listing the keydance codes has 3 different 42's, I figured that entire circut was fubar. Long story short, I ended up replacing the Fuel and MFI/ASD relays on the fire wall and was able to do so without going to the dealer. Auto Zone part numbers for an equivalent are MR76 and MR78 that are currently opperating in my car. I know this is working since they have been in the car for atlease two weeks with no codes thrown (except for the good old "no VSS signal" I'm now getting ;( :wallbash :owned :shrug ). If anyone really needs to see it with thier own eyes, I can brek down both and post pics since I still have the old ones. Score one more for 2GNT!!:cheers

Not exact right now but they are about $18 for both or you can look on www.autozone.com , run the part numbers and get prices there.

Just posted this due to the suggestion made by Terry (Star Turbo Talon) to do so since I saw in some old posts the people were paying $30-$50 a piece for these things. So tanks must also go to him since I probably wouldn't have posted this, thinking that someone had already done it :thumbsup

How is that possible since the relay is keyed? You just plug the generic relay into the pigtail and let it dangle?

Also, that PN is for the fuel pump only, it wouldn't work on the ASD relay.

Actualy I took the old relays out of the bracket, the new relays from thier housings, and put the new ones in the old bracket. Presto!!!! New relays, stock look :thumbsup

which one is for the asd relay? I'm currently not getting spark. I used a test light and I don't appear to be getting power to my coil either. The coil was just replaced about 2 months ago.

Well well well. First off thank you much for the part numbers. At my local store they actually cost differently.

MR76=$10.99
MR78=$11.99

Here is my short and sweet write up.

First off start by putting sandals on with pants.



Secondly take the relays out of the boxes (at the store too) to inspect them. I recommend keeping them close to their box/part number as there is only a slight difference in them.



Thirdly locate the relays in the engine bay. Pardon the dirt :( THis is for a manual trans. Go ahead and pop them in to test them out.

It kind of had a rough start up idle. I'm not sure if it will stay constant or not. has fired up about 5 times now. If anything happens within a week or so I will let you know. I can't figure out how to get the old relay internals out of the factory holder. Maybe I will try this later on tonight. Thanks

Does anyone happen to have a part number for the ATX equivelent?

All of those relays are your basic 12 volt, SPDT 5 pin automotive type relay. All of these type relays have the same pin configuration, and will plug directly into the car's relay sockets..You can find these relays all over the place locally, even at your local car stereo/remote start/alarm install shop. These places usually have tons of these on hand, and you may be able to pick a few up for really cheap. I've used Bosch and DEI relays before on these cars..works perfect

I have a few in my cougar I can borrow to test. I wasn't sure if the functionality was the same.
