12043, I can datalog runs now!

I was able to test out the pocketlogger software (see www.pocketlogger.com) with my car on Sunday (idling in the driveway, the roads were a mess) and it works perfectly. The software is used with a palm pilot (or a few other palms, I have a handspring visor).

I was able to read about 17 signals per second, compared to 6 signals per second which is the standard rate for OBD2. This means more accurate data. I can now log both O2 sensors, ignition timing, rpms, throttle position (but the SAFC is more accurate for throttle position, for some reason), calculated load on engine, two fuel trim values, manifold pressure (in kilopascals), coolant temp, air intake temp, and vehicle speed.

When I was testing it and looking at some data, I noticed the temp sensor (and the whole intake manifold) got heat soaked and stayed at about 100 deg F (the car idled for a while). I wonder how much the temp would go down if you were driving around (actual air flow over the sensor).

As soon as I can get a chance to drive around (when the weather improved a bit) I'll get some O2 numbers and tuned SAFC setting to everyone on the 2GNT board.

I'm sure this will help out more than a few people :)

Hey Todd, what other hardware do u need to datalog, besides the palm itself? Any wires or kits that u need to buy? Thanks.

When you buy the software, you get the OBD2 cable.

If you have a handspring, you need a serial cable as well, which pocketlogger sells.

if you get the datalogger do you still need an a/f guage and the other gauge to tune the s-afc? or does the data logger handle all that?

btw, i cant remember what other gauge you need for an s-afc so let me know. thanks

:)

You really don't need the A/F gauge since a datalogger or pocketlogger will record the O2 voltage, which is all the A/F gauge is giving you. (Either as digital numbers or "blinky lights.)

Of course, it's hard to look at the O2 volts while driving, so you might still need it. But, I heard of a 1G owner making a mount or bracked so he could mount his palm on the dashboard, so he can look at O2 and other numbers while driving. the numbers on it are very small, so I don't know how effective that will be.

And the other gauge you are thinking about is proably an EGT gauge. Since you install the thermocouple you need with the gauge, the pocketlogger can't record EGT temps.

I wish they made a cable for the sony clie. But I would imagine it would be really hard to try to tune while driving because the palm screen is kinda hard to read when the car's moving...
