120199, How to tell which motor I have?
Posted by ThePerfectShift, Jan-15-07 08:24 AM
I had a shop replace my motor a lil while back and I just realized I have no idea what year 2g it came from. Aren't the 95 motors different from all the others? Are there any tell tale signs of what year is in there? Help is appreciated!

They are all the same.

Only difference was the fuel delivery setup

And the bearings.
And the Pulsed secondary exhaust...

Since when did Dino and Terry start giving incorrect/vague answers to posts?

We both have our days.

Not all 95's got secondary pulsed injection, some never had it.

Aside from esoteric answers about main bearing notches, removed / not provided emissions components, and fuel system differences that don't have anything to do witht he motor itself, they are the same. The Neon SOHC motors had a different PCV system in the 95 model year, but on the 2GNT they're all the same. :shrug

Exactly. Emissions and fuel delivery are only relevant when discussing the actual car, motor, and accessories, not the motor by itself. The bearings, however, are differently notched. That's the only real difference, except it doesn't matter unless he's replacing the main bearings. If it was a 95 neon block, it has two extra holes that have to be plugged.

The only differences would be internals of a SOHC neon motor vs a DOHC neon motor.

So, they're basically the same with only minor differences.

There was a guy at the track in Houston with "122 cu. in. Hemi" on the front of his neon ACR. :rolleyes

LMAO. I used to sport a pair of 5.0 decals on my 88 Grand Prix. It was the base model (what is it with me and base models?) with the shitty 2.8L V6 that made 130hp in stock trim and I had a 5.0 decal on each front fender, right behind the wheel wells. The funny thing was, they were for a riding lawn mower, so just below the 5.0, it said "horsepower." :order

I got a lot of static for those things. Wish I had a picture...
