95 GS Auto - Headers & Intake

Ok, so this morning I get in my car to go to work and about 5 miles into my trip I come to a stop at a light and the car just died. Tried to start it and it wouldn't, battery was ok. I immediately checked my coilpack because I was having problems with it and thought I must have not connected something back. I checked over all the wires and everything was fine. I started to check all fuses and wires and I noticed the 30A engine fuse was blown so I replaced it with the one for the power window. I started the car and let it idle for a good 10 mins reving the motor sporadically. I then decided that it was JUST a blown fuse and then I drove off and proceeded to work and the ####ing car died again, not even half a mile up the street.

I went to the autostore and bought some replacement fuses, checked the entire engine wire harness/sensors/plugs etc. for shorts but couldn't find any. I replaced the fuse again and drove the car about 5 miles (drove perfect) and it died again so I just had it towed home and Im clueless. I need all the help from you guys.

Also I've been having problems with my tranny (it's in limp mode, stuck in 2nd gear) and right after I replaced the fuse for the 2nd time it shifted perfectly through all gears as if there were no problems with it. I also noticed that when it died the 3rd time the transmission was shifting from 1st to 2nd gear and the car just died. Could it be the speed sensors/solenoid pack? I just bought them but haven't replaced them yet.

Under the battery tray and intake piping, there is a section of main electrical harness which runs along the side of the engine to the front, up towards the starter (behind the header). You might want to yank that battery and intake piping and see about inspecting that harness there.

Electrical problems like this are a realy PITA, but it could be something related to the tranny, imo. Especially when you mention the trans being in limp mode to begin with...

I really believe it might be a tranny problem. I did tons of research on this site about my tranny being in limp mode and I just received the speed sensors and also the solenoid pack just in case. Would anybody care to explain how the tranny would keep blowing the fuse? Would it be because there's possibly a solenoid/speed sensor malfunction that it would cause a short.

I would think that if there was an actual electrical short then the car wouldn't start and drive for a few miles then blow the fuse. Also, why would the tranny shift fine after replacing the first 2 blown fuses? I just can't wait for it to stop raining so I can try to figure this out.

Now, I waited until the rain let up and went to look at it again. I replaced the fuse for a FOURTH time and made sure that I checked over all the wire harness that I could see along with visible sensors and the fuse BLEW before I could fire it up. I'm so clueless. Wondering if I should address the tranny problem first and see if that helps even though I doubt it will.

The fuse blew before you even started the car? What were you messing with when the fuse blew? I had the same problem with my fuel pump fuse. My problem was right under the fuse box.

P/S: Those damn fuses are expensive (for me anyways). Peace.

You've got a short somewhere. Sounds like it's getting worse. I'd yank the battery and start inspecting harness, man...

$3.00 per fuse and I'm on my fourth already so damn right it's getting expensive. I'll just have to wait until this weekend to mess with it. I'll try removing all the wire looms and tape off the wires which I know will be a PITA. I tried to unbolt the fuse box but the harness to it doesn't give me enough leverage to lift it up and look underneath because I guess the harness is too short. Man, I hate this car right now.

I somehow slightly think for some reason that it might be alternator connections because that's the only thing electrical in the engine bay that I haven't looked at yet.

Probably the wiring around the EGR tube between the right side of the head and the intake. There's two harnesses in there that like to droop down, melt, and short out. You'll never see it, you have to remove the intake and feel around.

Agree, that EGR pipe is a PITA when it comes to wiring around it.

Turns out it was my alternator connections. I jacked up the car and wiggled it a little bit because it seemed a little "stiff" (with little play) and then tried starting the car with a new fuse and it started up. I also figured that the alternator might not be holding the charge since the battery light came on so I removed the battery while the car was running and it shut off within a minute. I'm going to remove it and have it tested at the auto store which I know I might just end up replacing it. God, I hope this is the only problem.

P.S. Can somebody find me the link on how to do my own "tranny flush" because I can't seem to find it after searching for 15 mins.
