i got the 96 eclipse and i just instal the 98 motor in it and the damn car wont start i used my coil from 96 all conectors plugt in except crank and cam sensor so i cut the harneses and swichtem over and the car still wont start im getting fuel and the spark but the shit wont start . so can anybody help me out

why didn't you use the coil from the 98?

Wouldn't mate up with his wiring harness. There are two different coils.

well, he's getting spark anyway...
Search and see if maybe you have to swap two of the wires. Maybe the firing order is different between the 2 coils. I don't know, I'm just throwing out ideas. If there's fuel and spark, it should fire...

thanks . the timing is good because the engine was running before i took it out i thin is just one of the sensors but i dont know wich one

Your getting spark and fuel? So i take it your getting injector pulse? Make sure you didnt revers the two outer coil trigger wires. That will make the coil fire at the wrong time.

Do you have fuel pressure? what is it?

make sure the coil harness is going to the coil and not the Speed sensor like I did. heh. Exact same plugs. 3 wires. and they both reach the coil :shrug. would would've thunk. :shrug

If the CAS or CPS were hooked up backwards would it still spark? Would it actually change anything? Shouldn't he be able to check if the coils backwards by moving the center two spark wires to the outer plugs and the outer two wires to the inner plugs, being wasted spark and all?

BTW, I fixed the title :)

No difference.

Did you double check the connections to the coil where you cut/spliced? Can you verify that they are correct? Neither the year of the engine nor the transmission should have any bearing on the car running. If it ran before you pulled the engine, but not now, it's related to either something electrical that you missed or messed up, or the planets have aligned to stick it to you at just this moment in time.

Think of the places where you messed with the harness at all and double check them. This has got to be one of those little gremlin-type things, man. Good luck.

I still haven't seen an answer to the question of are your coil wires reversed? Let's see, on my 97 the brown wire goes to coil 2 + 3 and the blue black wire goes to 1 + 4. The center wire I'm not sure of the color off hand (and I'm watching the game right now).

If that's OK, I would say to double check the cam sensor connection and the crank. Two common areas of concern after putting the engine in and having spark problems.

Crap, I shouldn't answer this while I am watching the game. I just noticed that it was the cam and crank sensor plugs that you cut. Obviously, double check schematics on the plugs and double check connections. Were they soldered? Possibly a bad connection in there? Like I said previously, these are areas of concern when putting in an engine and not gettingt spark.

ok i check my sensors the conections are fine i put difrence asd relays and still nothin im gonna order a ecu and see what heppens . i still have no spark so if anybody have any ideas let me know .

camon guys i need help really bad .today i checked volts on the sensors cam and crank and they both have 4.9v nad 8.9v i swiched the rellays asd and the one for the pump and im still gettin no spark.know im startin to think my computer shit the bed but the think is everything was workin before i did the swap so if anybody have any ideas let me know .. thanks
