There is no such thing.

No 420a is "stock turboed" so either someone turbo'ed it or else it's not a 420a.

on more question i looked up the numbers that were casted in the block and it came up as a 420a engine,i have a 95 eclipse with a 420a engine the 5sp tranny will not bolt up why? will a 4g63 tranny bolt up to a 420a engine? thanks nick

To answer your question, no.

4G63 and 420a are completely different things, nothing is interchangeable.

ok then why will the 5sp not bolt up to my eclipse? both engines are 420a

please define "not bolt on"
meaning-
bolt holes dont line up?
drive shaft dosent fit?
flexplate / flywheel dosent bolt right?

most likely your trying to plug a modular system to a non-modualr, or visa versa


oh and posting pics will help us figure it out as well

Several 2.4L 420A engines were available turbocharged from the factory... just wanted to throw that out there since it's still technically a 420A.

There is only one 2.4L engine from Chrysler that is factory turbo'ed, an SRT-4's engine, but if you know of anymore more please enlighten me. An SRT-4 engine code is a A855 while a our 420a is an D4RE. There are many differences between the 2 engines that I would hardly call them both a 420a, even though an SRT-4 engine is "based" off a 420a.

this is just 100% speculation but pt criusers have 420a's right? is it posible the pt turbo kept the same engine? (it may be a false statement that the pt's have 420a's i just remember somone saying that they had neon motors)

They came with N/T 2.0L and 2.4L and turbo 2.4L 420As.

Mike your wrong here. The SRT-4, the Turbo PT 2.4L, the 2.0 non turbo are all 420a code engines, period. There are a handful of variations of the 420a but they are all 420a none-the-less.

PT Cruisers never came with 2.0L engines. Only a non-turbo 2.4L and turbo 2.4L.

I think you are taking what I said too technical Terry. I even said the SRT-4 engine is based off the 420a, but I doubt even SRT-4 owners say they have 420a's in their cars. There is a definite visual difference between the two if you have both sitting next to each other. I assumed the OP was talking about a 420a from an eclipse because he says he owns one and he was looking at the engine. If he had a question about putting that tranny on his car, you would think the engine he would take it from looked like his.

I dont care if its a 2.4L or not in the pt cruiser, its still a 420a variant. Do some reading on chrysler engines. Are you really this dense or is it that hard to comprehend?

V8....get me a picture of the trans and motor and we can clear this up.

I can't believe this is going this far. :P Dude, look at the engine under the hood of your 95 Eclipse. Is it the same engine? Unless the only difference is a turbo hanging off the front of an otherwise identical engine, it's not going to just bolt up.

and then theres the 2.4L from the turbo stratus in mexico.

i will get you pictures tomarrow, when i say that the tranny will not bolt up i mean the two bolt holes that go into the block are closer to gether on the 5sp than on my auto tranny, the valve cover on the engine in question says 2.0L and the numbers casted in the side are 4667642 witch i looked up on this site was saying 95-99 420a engine but my question is if the engine in question is a 420a engine why will the 5sp tranny not bolt up to my eclipse? thanks

Pictures wont show, no idea why. Possibly because they were in a tif format.


As you can see the trans is a Getrag 4g63 based trans. No idea if its a 1st gen or 2nd gen.

The 420a has a 2.4 water pipe or that could be a 2.0 pipe on the Neon, not sure which.
