119745, Need help with passenger squealing, video included Posted by dsmmyth, Mar-24-07 09:55 AM
I usually don't post much, but I need some help with my car.
What it does:
Startup: I start up my car and it's fine for about .2 seconds, then it starts squealing.
While driving: It's less evident at lower RPM's, and gets even louder when accelerating (higher RPM's). Pretty embarassing for surrounding drivers.
Turning off: It's almost the reverse of starting up. I'll turn it off and it will continue to squeal for a fraction of a second after the engine's been off.
I've stopped driving it altogether and had to borrow my parent's car to go to college. :\
It's in my garage and here's a video if it in action:

It's really hard to hear, but I was hoping someone could tell me what the possibilities were from what I had typed.
So far, I've bought a new PS pump to help remedy the problem. It sounds the same. Then, I took off the PS/AC belt and the squealing is still there.
I'm thinking it's the harmonic balancer, but I'm not sure. I'm hoping it's not inside the T-casing.
My parents are coming back with my tools, so I'm just hoping someone will respond here with a educated guess of some sort by the time they return. :)

Nope, not a loose belt. I removed the belts one at a time, and the squealing isn't evident after I removed the alternator belt (after the PS belt), so I think I can figure it out from here. :)
...hopefully.

ROFL.
Yeah. I don't know what was up with it. I torqued the UDP down until it clicked, not even a fraction of a turn really, put a new Gatorback on the alternator belt and it's fine now. :shrug

That's really weird. I could have swore that it was something in the clutch/trans area, but if you fixed it, then I don't know. It sure as hell sounded like something was fucked up with the drivetrain.
