Well my sunroof has a problem opening. It wont. Whenever I push the little black switch to open it, it only makes a noise. The noise could be compared to like a clicking of when you unlock your car. I know that my motor and switch were replaced, but i cant figure it out. Could there possibly be a sensor that tells the car if the sunroof is open or closed, and it could be faulty? please help!

Could be your motor is bad. Try manually opening it some by taking off that square cover where the switch is, should be a bolt there you can tighten/untighten to open/close the glass. Then try the switch again, may be just jammed up.

Yeah, just take off the plastic piece and get an allen wrench and see if it even moves manually.

There's a fuse in the driver side of the car near the deadplate, should be on the lower section of all the fuses.

Also, did you just have it replaced? Or it was replaced, and this is now a down the road problem?

There is a manner of sensor attached to the passenger-side sunroof cable, but it only measures how much the sunroof was opened, not if it is closed. If this sensor fails, the sunroof will open fine, but will not shut because the system thinks it's still closed.

Probably a dead motor.

Alright so here is what i found out. I took off the cover by the switch, and then i took out those 2 little screws in there as well. Then i took off that whole cover piece. I saw the orange-ish hex piece in there, so i grabbed my allen wrench, and stuck it in there. I couldnt get my allen wrench to fit, so i gave it some force, and the hex piece went further up in towards my sunroof. I didnt even know it was hanging low in the first place, so now this is something new. Then, I push the switch while holding my wrench in the hex piece and keeping it level up in there, and it makes an electronic noise i have never heard before, I got happy, hoping that my sunroof was about to pop open. Nope. It sounded like me keeping the wrench up in there and keeping some force on it made it sound like it wanted to do it without my wrench in there, cuz maybe my wrench is causing it to not want to turn. So i take out my wrench, hit the switch again, and the hex piece pops back down, and I have nothing. Where should I go from here?:shrug

No it isn't. it's supposed to do that.

Try not hitting the switch and turning the allen wrench instead. I think you're unclear on the concept of manually opening the sunroof.

Yeah, the fitting is plastic. Also make sure you're using the right size allen wrench. You don't want to strip that plastic.

And yeah, like Dino said, it's supposed to move up and down.

If you open it manually, then it's something with the motor. If it won't open, the roof itself is probably catching somewhere.

How do i fix it if the roof is catching? Could it be that since my sunroof has been closed for over 2 years that it has "seamed" itself shut?

Hit it. :shrug

There's only seven bolts that hole the sunroof in. You could always take it out (it's a bitch, I've done it) and see.

guy that repaired my sunroof when it got stuck about a quarter inch open said that the number one thing that kills sunroofs is not using them. the oil/lube they use dries up and it gets off track which jams it. He had to take my whole sunroof apart, lube everything up and reset the positions/whatever and put it back in. forget how much it cost, but I'msure I could've done it myself with enoguh time and patience.

I hit the rails every now and then with some lithium grease, after mine sat for 3 years it opened but it didn't want to close, kept catching on the dry, dirty slide rails and tried to drop down to close while it was still 3/4 of the way back. a little brakleen a rag and some white lithium later works perfect again

I had the same problem. I replaced both tracks and it works great now. I'm willing to bet its your tracks. They get old, brittle and brake one little piece can brake and it does not work. The bad part is the dealer wants 212 for the driver side and 222 for the pass side.

I think that when you push the hex piece up, it engages so you can turn the wrench and open the glass. Personally think its a junk way to make an emergency open. DO NOT strip out the hex piece. Hard to turn may mean your roof is jammed, tracks.

My sunroof tracks got bad (like someone also stated), gatta keep'em clean and greased. Or pieces click, snap,and break. When mine broke it would not close straight, jammed then burnt up the motor. Removing the glass is not that bad. Use the correct size allen wrench and maybe some penetrating oil? if their stuck, you dont want to strip them out! like 6 or eight bolts i think. When the glass is removed, you can see more whats going on in the tracks.

To pull the motor, you have to removed the headliner...
