If you can find something small enough to fit and handle the tension go for it. For what its worth, you could probably go to the hardware store and pickup a standard cotter pin for like 60 cents. All you really need is something to keep the tensioner in place until you apply the torque to the pulley and tighten down the tensioner.

Thanks for the reply. I have already gone through cotter pins and nails. They all seem to bend in the middle.

Just use a drill bit.

It worked for me a month ago for a friends car. It bends slightly under the pressure but when you do the proper install with pre-load, the pin should pull out with your fingers when it is right.

I used a small allen wrench. It didnt bend it. And like said above, when the timing is all set, you should be able to freely remove and replace the pin in the hole.

Paneling nail (of course you use what you got laying around. Being a carpenter, it's what I got). Works perfect and they're cheap, lol.

+2 for the allen wrench idea, has worked twice for me and i'll be using it again once it get there. i'm puttin a new head on.
