But I have a couple of questions.

First off, I'm cleaning it up on the inside and thinking of smoothing out the runners, but the "knife" edging of the injector pop up parts, that's mainly towards the backside of it right?

Second, what the hell is that black box that has the two vaccum lines going to it? You know, the one in the way of everything else.

the black box is the vacuum reservoir for the cruise control

The black box I think you're referring to is for the cruise control system... don't ask me what it does, I just know what system it belongs to...

I finally put everything back on, except for the upper half and that should go back on today if the spacer arrives, which it should. I'm expecting that and wheel adapters for the Trailblazer (prep for 32" tires and a 2" suspension lift).

I said screw it to knife edging the injector humps, I figure I removed enough carbon and smoothed out the runners enough that I'll gain a couple of ponies on top of what that spacer will give me.

Im dreading the intake mani removal myself, almost makes me not want to have the TB and manifold port matched.... :cry

The plenum half isn't that bad, it's the lower runners that sucks the salties. For the upper half its just the bolts that you can get to from underneath the car with 1.5-2' worth of extensions and a 10mm socket, and the 13mm bolt for the bracket, along with the sensors, vaccum hoses, and throttle cable... upper is a cake walk, 10-20 minutes.

It took me 5 hours to figure out how to remove the lower because since I moved, my Chiltons is in a box somewhere in my new place. It only took 2 hrs to put it back on!

I just used my dremmel and made a smoother transition for my 60mm TB.

I'm wondering what sorts of gains I'm looking at from the transition for the TB, the spacer, and my smoothing out the runners. Any ideas? I did knock down just a little bit, maybe 1/16-1/8" on the injector humps.

But I'm assuming since I removed a ton of carbon buildup from the runners I should see some gains. I'm talking THICK buildup, 207k miles worth.

I keep wondering WHO THE FUCK would think to put the bolts from the bottom UP into the intake mani, so that you have to lift the car and get underneath the car to remove something on the very top of the engine... what kind of piece of shit manufacturing enginereers do they have :7

Yeah, expect no gains, or 1-2. If you expect a really noticeable gain, you might disappoint yourself.

Just think, you're not really gaining anything, you're getting back what you lost, IIRC it does smooth out the power curve a touch and help a little on the low end grunt, not much for max power tho, correct me if I'm wrong here

i agree... the way the manifold is bolted together is pretty rediculous. i pulled mine off today and learned that the stock throttle body is really small! im sure there can be some decent gains made from upgrading it as long as you bore out the manifold to go with it or just get a new one altogether. Especially for those who are boosting.

I am sooooo glad that I've got the extra one hanging on the old motor before i try to clean and match port it, getting the one off the car once it's all done is gonna suck

I remember being under the car with something like 3 feet of extenders attached together to get that thing back on.

I also remember doing that more than once. Also not fun.

I had to think for a second "what black box with vac lines?" Then I remembered there's no cruise control on my RS.

I think if you are going to have the manifold off, try to get as much done with it as possible before putting it on. It may not do much, but that oversized hunk of aluminum needs all the help it can get.

The intake manifold isn't that bad. I had a friend come over to give me a hand lining it up when I put the head back together. Maybe 45 tops to have it reinstalled. It's a bitch, but it can be done.

PS-I'm not the smallest dude in the world so I couldn't be like the little Asians at the Honda place and stand on top of the motor. I'm not trying to pick on Asians or anything, but a couple of the smaller guys will squat on a valve cover to reach shit like that. It's crazy to watch.

I put the top half back on, it would have taken 45 minutes even with the spacer, but since I'm a genious I left the bolt that attaches to the bracket in the upper manifold and it took me a while to realize why one side didn't lay flush.

All in all, it was worthwhile. The car is actually starting and functioning correctly all except for a 950rpm idle.

I had an issue with it not running correctly until I did the keydance and through those codes realized I forgot to hook up the sensors on the throttle body (doh!).

I'm glad to have my car back, but now I found (put) a nice hole in my strut tower because I was poking at it's cancer.

Its weird I lived in california when I got my car a mile from the beach. I live in hawaii now one big beach and I have zero rust spots.

originally delivered in new mexico, spent most of it's life in colorado, if I see rust I can usually wipe it off by hand, maybe a touch in the headlamp baffle plates where it's been banged up a few times
