Is it ok if I remove my muffler and completely submerge it in water? The reason I ask is because there's some rust on my exhaust and I wanted to remove it using electrolysis rather than trying to grind that stuff off.

Is it a stock muffler? If that's the case, just buy a new one.

I have a general idea of the process he wants to use, wasn't aware you could use it to remove rust thought, thought it was more for plating things with different types of metals.

anyways, I think a more direct question is, will submerging a muffler damage anything inside. I don't know personally, maybe someone here does.



next question. how do you dry out the inside of the exhaust when you're done?

as long as you dont use Saltwater to imerse it then its fine. check the manufature to make sure on the muffler packing though. fiberglass and steel wool are fine.
you can dry it with a shop vac set to reverse and leave it for a few hours or a hair dryer on low/ med heat

electrolisis for rust removal is easy and safe but its limitied by line of site from the Anode and Catode so if its the oustide then your good if its the inside then you have to suspend an anode inside the exhaust.

if its just rust then use Muratic Acid to get it off, however you MUST coat it with somthing IMEEDIATLY after you clean it or it will start to rust again. also its for steel parts only (will eat Aluminium)
use 1Cup: 1 Gal water

just seal off the insides with lots of rubber??
