i wanted to get rid of it since i dont use it, and its ugly, and in the way of everything on that side of the engine, but i dont know how to get all of it off of there, and if i will need a new throttle cable or not, i searched, and some people said yes, some said no, so i dont know, can anyone help me out?

what, no one knows anything about this? i need to know because i have the head off the car now, and it would make things a hell of a lot easier to remove it all now, then after putting it back together...

yeah i dont use it at all, i dont drive long distances, work is 1 mile away, school is 3, and im hardly ever in 4th or 5th gear, so its of no use to me, plus its in the way on that side of the engine. i cant get my hand down to the alt. or to the upper intake plenum, so its just a waste

Im trying to ADD cruise to my car. Err. You can remove the cruise components, except for the throttle cables. You can use those without everything else and it will work. You may want to find another throttle without the cruise if your really want to get rid of it all. New cables will get rid of that 'box' on the current cable system. The black box your probuably worried about is the vacuum resivoir. Check where the vacuum lines go in the system as i believe one of them goes to the upper/back side of the intake manifold. If you remove it, may need to cap off the unused vacuum outlet.

I can explain more if you have any questions. This is just off the top of my head. Myself, trying to figure out if I need to change my computer/harness to upgrade to the cruise, or if i can simply tap into the pins on the ecu some sort of way.

Hey guys. I know this thread is old, but I am installing the Portfueler this weekend and I want to remove the cruise control vacuum box as well. I never use this feature and I hear that the box gets in the way for alternator and manifold removal. I was wondering if its just as simple as removing the box and then either plugging or using the CC vacuum nipple on the intake manifold for something else? I know there is a solenoid in the throttle cable box as well, but will there be any bad effects if I just unplug the vacuum line to this and leave it alone?

Has anyone else done this before? Please let me know if there is more involved to removing the cruise control setup and also if it will trigger some CEL code.

You should be fine. I was just dismantling the cruise on my parts car and the only thing that would affect how the engine runs is the vacuum line that goes up to the intake.

Thanks man. So as long as I make sure to use that open vacuum nipple or plug it, removing the cruise control box will have no ill effects on my car?

Yeah, just don't remove the throttle rotor housing that the cables all go into unless you've got a non-cruise cable to install.

you can order a non-cruise cable from dealers for like $40 and remove the entire metal box of components from the fire wall.
haven't seen a problem with mine in over 2 years doing it that way.

When I removed my cruise control i picked up the non-cruise throttle cable from here: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=213934 . I only paid $21 + shipping for it.

I might do this because my cruise does not work. I believe I have a vacuum routing problem that I have never been able to straighten out.. The car runs fine though so I have not messed with it.

Thanks a lot guys. I took out the vacuum box today, and for now I plan to just leave the metal box with the components alone. Although, that could be a good place to mount the Aeromotive fpr.

Tuxdreamer - My cruise control had not been working for a while either, and today when I removed it I found out why. There are only two vacuum lines to that box. One going from the middle nipple on the intake manifold plenum to the box, and then one leaving the box and going to the control solenoid. By appearances only, my setup looked fine, but after removing the box it was obvious the the line leaving to the solenoid was no longer connected.

Check both lines, I bet one is damaged or not connected.
