some say yes some say no
consider your taking off the cams anyway your about 10 bolts, and some manifolds away from removing the thing.

I've done it on hondas, you can use the fact that it's an interference engine to keep from losing the valves down far enough that you can't pull them back out without removing the head, just make sure that you only do a set while that cyl is at TDC or when you remove the keeper the valve will fall in to where you can't get it back. the other method is to remove the cams and pressurize the cylinders (on a good compression motor this *should* keep the valves closed) of course getting the springs compressed is much easier with the big C-clamp style compresser and that requires the heads to be removed, plus you're only looking at *maybe* saving 20 some odd min by not removing the head. plus if your seals are bad you're probably not that far from needing a headgasket and bolts anyways, might as well do it while you're in there.
sorry for playing the devils advocate

yeah its probably better to just pull the head and have everything freshed up, new timing belt, timing components , head gasket, and valve stem seals, that is if you know all that hasn't been done in a while
