119346, blinking CEL?

ok, when i bought the car, the CEL bulb was removed, so i put it back in, and it was blinking right away, so SOMEBODY clearly didnt want me to know what was going on with the car, so who knows what kind of damage could have happened while this was going on? anyways, i swapped the coil, wires and plugs with the ones from my old car, and no more blinky light.

over the weekend i swapped my head and all my other parts from my old car, and afterwards, it was running fine. tuesday i ran some seafoam in there, and wednesday i put new plugs in, since my old ones were pretty black from the leaky valve seals and the seafoam, altho i didnt change the gap since i didnt have my plug gapper, it was still running fine. that night, my crank bolt came loose, and i lost my alternator belt, so i had to drive home with the battery light on, which was only 5 minutes or so, but it was still running fine. thursday, i put a new belt on, put a new radiator cap on since mine was bad, and changed the rubber hoses for the intake to a different color. i started it up, and it was backfiring, and running rough and the CEL was blinking again. so i swapped the plugs, no more backfire, but still blinky CEL, reset the comp, still blinky CEL and running rough, so i tried another coil i had, same thing?

the car has new plugs like i mentioned, and new remanufactured injectors from NOPI. only have like 300 miles on them, and i tried 2 sets of wires, and 3 different coils, but its still doing the same thing? what could have happened within the 3 days to make this happen? i havent had a chance to look at the timing, but from lookin at it without checking it, it looks fine. i also havent had a chance to check compression either, but i will check today after work... could it have anything to do with the fact that the wires for the coil harness have been cut and splice locked together? it was like that when i bought the car, it looks like he bought the wrong coil, since it has round pins, but i thought 97+ have flat pins? any ideas anyone?

its blinking to tell you what kind of a CEL it has, you need to run a diagnostic scan on it, it might be something major, go and rent an OBD II scan tool

I blinking check engine light indicates a misfire has been detected in something like 35% of all available firing opportunities. Fix the misfire.

This typically happens after someone has washed their engine off and got water down in the spark plug tubes. With all the changing of plugs and wires, I'm pretty sure you're dry down there.

First thing I would do is pull those plugs and check the gap. Be sure it's where it needs to be. If you're sure you've got good wires and coil, the next place I would look is the injectors. You said they're NOPI remans. What size? You're still all motor, right? You don't want to br running any injectors larger than stock unless you've seen a definite need for more fuel in your wideband AFR on the dyno, most likley in the top end, imo.

What with your luck, eh? :P ;)

well by all motor, you mean top end right? the head is still the same on ERT built, but bottom is still stock.

and fix the misfire eh? sounds so simple, why didnt i think of that. i checked the code, and its just 43, misfire, but like i said, ive changed everything so far, im gonna go check compression now, and regap to plugs, but they should be gapped at .50 which is pretty close to what they should be anyways. the injectors were just regular size, and i had them on my old car before it was totalled, the car ran perfect with them in, so i really doubt it was that. when i was fixing the belts and the hoses on the intake, it was raining, so that might have been the problem, but i swapped the coil this morning with a stock one, same thing, it runs rough, with the CEL on.

one thing i noticed, i pulled the wires while the car was running, and 1 and 2 have a lot of spark when i pull them off the plug, and it bogs down pretty bad, but 3 and 4 barely spark unless they are practicallt touching the plug. it still bogs down, but not as bad, but it was like that when i got the car as well, so nothing has changed with that

edit: i just checked compression, it was 180 185 190 195 give or take a few, which is rather low considering the head is still new, with only 6000 miles on it. timing is still dead on. also, number 2 plug was black, not completely black, but pretty good, all others were tan. could it be the head gasket even tho it was brand new?

well i changed the coil with the one that came on the car, and swap a plug since it was all black, and changed the intake back to the way it was, and its running fine now, but it wants to stall sometimes when im coming to a stop, it will either drop down, to 0 then surge up like it was just started, or it will drop low, and bog real low, any ideas?

its also blowing a good bit of smoke, while at idle, or when giving it gas. it might be because its kinda cold out, but the night before all this happened, some kids i got to school with said it was blowing smoke that night, which was wednesday night

ok so i went out and checked the #2 plug since i swapped it with a newer one, and after 10-15 minutes its completely black again, all the other ones are tan, and look clean. compression was also the same...

on the old head, #2 was the one that was leaking oil, and was making the plugs black and coroeded, and even after swapping the head, injectors, HG, its still getting black... my dad was sayin that the block might be cracked, does that sound like a possibility, even tho the compression numbers arent bad?
