119077, RPMs drop suddenly.... need help figuring this one out. Posted by delo360, May-23-07 06:12 AM
Between 1.5 and 4 thousand RPM as i'm driving in any gear, the RPM needle would just fall about 500 or 1000 RPM and the car would studer and jerk forward as the needle catches up to were it used to be. The last time i had this happen, it ended up being a blown coil but that threw a CEL. How can i go about diagnosing this problem or checking the coils? Thanks guys i have no idea what to do on this one.

When you replaced the coil pack, did you also replace the wires and plugs? The plug wires could be crap and not staying securely attached to the plugs or coil. Make sure they're all firmly connected where they need to be. This also goes for the connector on the coil pack and cam position sensor (front right corner of the head).

Yes the wires and plugs were replaced as well. Just to note, the coil problem was fixed about 20K ago. As far as the cam position sensor, i did wipe off some oil that was building up on what i believe to be what you are describing. Although this didnt instantly fix the problem, i didnt have the problem come up again all night tonight when i was out. However, i did remove a dirty air filter as well, but that didnt solve the problem instantly either. All i know is tonight the car was fine.
