I've searched and there is some useful information but all the pictures have gone bad. :( Where should I place the jack and jack stands for both front and back? This will be for a good length of time so no "well that worked when I changed the oil, but things were wobbly" lol. Thanks!

Pictures would be great and if you guys were in storage that long, you'd be up on jack stands wouldn't you, or no? Talking year(s).

I usually jack right where the lower crossmember meets the radiator support right in the front and put the jackstands right behind the tires on the rocker panel. For the rear, I jack right in the middle of the long metal thing right around where the wheels are attached to. Sorry I feel dumb because I don't remember what it's called :P I put the jack stands on the rocker panel then in front of the rear tires. Very sturdy.

Are you kidding me!!?? :nono Hate to be mean but have you ever jacked a car up??? Just put the stands somewhere sturdy, like the chassis, pinch welds, ect.

Never jacked it up with jackstands. Hydrolic lift FTW! But I can't really occupy one for a year can I?

I want to make sure I have them in good spots not like some others who bent things because they don't find out good spots for the jacks first and then have trouble because they can't get screws etc. out cause stuff's bent. Anyone have pictures? Thanks total05 though, that's what I'm sort of thinking mostly. I'm thinking crossmembers in front (where the three meet, just behind the screws), and in the back, the rear differential to jack. And then pretty much the places you said for the jack stands. :)

Front, pic taken behind front wheel. I usually jack from the right arrow (where Mike mentioned) and put my jack stands above the left arrow.


Rear, pic taken in in front of rear wheel. I jack from above the right arrow and put my stands on that flat part of the steel above the left arrow.

the seam. My jackstands actually have a small notch in them that matches

^ This is where I got the part about the rear differential. I feel really newb. Didn't realize it was for a TSi and was in a bit of a hurry so didn't realize "differential" was in the sentence I guess. The quotes from DSMtalk.com.

no diff, it's the rear suspension crossmember

spent almost 6 months like this. never wobbled a bit, and i was even climbing all over the engine compartment when i was putting the engine back in.

(looks tilted, but thats just the angle of the picture, it was actually level)

Thanks for your pic, though the jack stands look like their in different spots than in the pics earlier in the thread...? Nice Jack Stands btw, I just got some like those a few days ago. GM Goodwrench. You like them I assume?

pinned jackstands are safer than the "ratchet" (I think thats what you call them) style, if you bump the handle on those just right it can bring a car down on you.

I think that depends on the jackstand that you have. The ones I use have a cam type lock. You can pull up on the handle and as long as there is weight on it, you can't lift it.

yeah they are the camed 3-ton GM Goodwrench ones from Sears.
i like em, light and small enough to not be a pain when there not under the car, yet very stable.

much better then my dads 15-ton truck jack stands :P

I think you're thinking of Avery jacks. Dangerous things....
