118755, Scoring on inside of valve cover, Last question Posted by Blmet, Jun-27-07 06:56 AM
Last question from me I hope. I was replacing my valve cover gasket and noticed some scoring inbetween the spark plug holes. Shown in the picture. The arrows point to the scoring. I looked at the valve train and nothing seems to be near those areas though. Anyone know what could have caused this scoring?

I guess I have never even looked for scoring on my valve cover when I have done my gasket changes. Is it actually "cut" into the valve cover? Wipe a cloth on there to get rid of the oil residue and take another picture.

It is cut into the metal, very lightly though. I tried to get a better pic, but my camara isn't good at close up focusing. The part that confuses me is there is nothing under those areas to cause scoring, the valve components are centered with the spark plug holes.

Is this the first time you have ever removed the cover?
Are you a 2nd-3rd-4th owner of this car?
Maybe the tension from the screws bolted down on the cover were tight?
