118643, biggest turbo that you can fit?? Posted by Pitt, Jul-02-07 03:56 PM
Well I heard some strange rumors about turbo's that can be fitted
I don't trust those guys because they are haters.. so I wanna know what are the biggest turbo's that can be fitted they told me I can't go higher then T03 because we are 2.0 4cylinder and if you go bigger it won't spool the turbo...

First of all, debating the "Biggest turbo you can fit" is a bullshit argument to begin with. Second, just as the smallest stream can turn a giant water mill, so too, can your 2.0L turn a ginormous turbo. This is where reading compressor maps comes into play.

To give you a general idea, compressor maps deal with two primary characteristics of turbos - choke and surge. Turbos are designed to be most efficient when delivering boost within a set range. Spin the turbo too slow and you choke it. Spin the turbo too fast, and you surge it.
Visit the Garrett website and look up their "Turbo 101" articles. That will likely provide you with all the information you need to know when these "haterz" are obviousl full of shit and it's a waste of your valuable time to even discuss things like this with them.
The biggest turbo you can fit is precisely that. The biggest turbo you can physically fit on the car. Now, if these guys were any smarter than tree bark, they would know this and perhaps try to debate the largest turbo that could be efficiently spooled on a built 2.0L inline four.
Food for thought...

Check out some of the Evo guys that are running 50+ PSI. See what they are running on a 2.0l.

15 minutes would have been too much. I spent less than five on that. Reading and writing comprehension skills account for a lot, you know. ;) :thumbsup
"Justice is served." That was funny.

True that! and just as a small stream can turn a giant water mill, with the right upgrades a small fart can propel anyone into supersonic speeds.

yoru gonna be somewhere between mhi td02 turbo (or for the Garrett fans, GT12) 50-130 bhp and a flow of 12 Lb/min
![]()
and this
TPL91-B 100,000 BHP (btw you can get this out of a Supertanker junkyard) flow rate of 50 m3/s at 4.5Bar (63psi)

but most likley your gonna be looking through Super Street and end up taking a page from the AMS EVO's and going with a GT42R @ 50 psi dont worry its plug and play, just install and turn up the boost
/sigh

So you take an old Pacesetter header, cut the primaries about 8" off the head, flange them, bolt a GT12 to each. Then you connect the rest of the Pacesetter to the turbine outlets making a 4-1 downpipe before installing a K&N breather filter over the compressor inlets. Finally, you plumb your intake to another plenum, which is fed by the four GT12s. Then you could go to the Audi dealership and pick up a pair of TT badges for your, now, 2GNT-TTTT.
That would be mega sikkk. :P
EDIT: Good link to Garrett turbo specs if anyone is interested. http://www.capa.com.au/turbo_garrett.htm
