118489, Hello Guys! InfiniteGSX from Tuners here! Posted by nFiniteGS-T, Jul-22-07 12:45 PM
Hey guys, I've never posted here ever! I'm always on Tuners tho... so I'm sure some of you know me. Having problems with Tuners not working for me... so I have too much time on my hands to not be able to talk to anyone.
I have a question tho... To all of you, how FAR have you gone to detail your engine/engine bay to be a show off or whatever reason you done it for? Do you have photos? My black 98 Turbo GS that I used to have, I had a crate motor and all I did was Paint the VC Red and polished the letters... but thats it! The new 97 has two bent valves right now because of a VERY old timming belt (I think it hasn't been chanced since it was bought in 97).. it blew like 3 days after I got the car registered and insured. So I'm just going to throw a U-Pull-It head on for now and have a head built by SlowBoyRacing. But while the head is off I'm thinking about degreasing the engine and everything else I can find, painting the engine bay black and the block and trans black, to show off everything else like my rebuilt Slave Cyl that I painted red... I just wanted to see how far you've gone to clean things up. I'm sure everyone here agrees with me that a clean engine bay is a fun engine bay to work in. Who likes fiddling around in there with grease and oil everywhere? lol

Hehe. I sprayed my motor down with engine degreaser and hit it with the hose. That's about it. I was going to paint my vc while i had it off but i figured it was pointless. I'll be swapping out my head next month so i might do the pointless thing and paint the vc anyway.
As long as it's clean as in 'free of dirt, grime and oil', that's all i worry about.

I wouldn't eat off of it but it's clean enough.
I plan on having most things under the hood flat black if i ever get around to turbocharging this bastard.

This is the crate motor setup I had going in my 98 GS-Turbo. The only dirt or grime that was on the block was the normal dirt from everyday driving that gets cleaned once a week... and the exhaust grime from an exhaust leak on the stock manifold (before turbo)

Hey haha I've been trying like every hour to connect to Tuners since last night and it hasn't worked for me either. I'm bored to death and need my DSM forums to read!! Haha can't do my daily DSM-ZERO update check (I know you pay attention to that thread too).
Anyway, I powdercoated my VC on my Howell crate motor the same green as my car, so I like how that looks. Otherwise I haven't done more than clean dirt and grime off the large easily accessed parts around the engine bay. I would like to paint the whole bay black as well as the block/trans and other accents - leaving only the VC and other key features (read: turbo, IC pipes, WG, BOV, etc once they're in there) to catch your eye and stand out. But that's a lot of work so I'd only do that if I'm taking everything out of there... which I don't plan on doing any time soon :)
Infinite - what turbo were you running on your old 420A? Specs, how'd it work? Looks nice.

Oh and this is kind of off topic.. but not really. I have a spare set of rims, similar to the pic in my sig. They're 6 spoke as well, but nothing fancy. I also have a spare VC. I'm curious what it would look like if I powdercoated the spare rims a bronze/goldish color and had my other VC powdercoated to match them. I love how gold colored rims look on dark-red and black DSMs... not sure about green.

VC IC Piping Struts Overflow Mirrors
I used Duplicolor's high heat engine enamel and covered that with some clear coat that they make. It'll be in the engine later this week.

The entire setup was ebay related! Tial 50mm BOV on Evo IC Pipes, Star/Treadstone (replica) manifold and a Tial 38mm Wastegate next to a .57 Trim Turbo. The furthest I got in it all was the engine running but since the trans was totaled, and so was the clutch, I didn't get to drive it around. I didn't have any fuel management or anything just yet. Just a Stock Supra TT fuel pump. The car ran and the turbo ran good with a few revs but then the car was seized and I sold the turbo setup to buy my 97. I'm going to be doing a similar setup this time, except using authentic parts (minus a few small things that dont matter) so I'm sure you'll see what happens then.

Go with it. Like you said, they're spares. If you dont like em, take em off.
I think it'd look pretty cool. Either a bright bronzey mirror finish or a medium to dull bronze flat finish would hit the sweet spot with your car. I really want to do a dull bronze powdercoat on my gst rims but I also want to give flat black a go. Do a few rattle can jobs to see what you'll like best before you decide to powdercoat because i'm sure you know it's a bitch to strip off.

I've been wanting to paint my GS wheels black and polish the living hell out of the little lip... since I dont have enough cash for wheels and the cash I do get, goes towards other more important things..

Infact, I'll just post up some pics... just since I'm new here.
Here's my 98 GS-Turbo before I pulled the bumper off to install the FMIC...
And here's the 97 GS the day after I got it... well actually two days later cause the day I got it, I got pulled over on transit and the ass muchers towed it... so the day after that, here it is...

And the info on the car. Its a 97 GS that I got with a turbo wing on it (thought it was turbod until I bought it for 3500), The car was, excuse my french, FUCKED UP, when I bought it... but I bought it a month after my 98 was taken from me by local PD... so I was desperate! And the owners let me do contracted payments... even tho they tried screwing me a few times and we had to settle things in court. But the car was wrecked, air bags were both blown, gauge cluster was not working, stereo wireing was trashed (as you can see inside the photos, I already fixed all the wireing inside the dash and professionaly wrapped all of it and installed my Alpine from the 98). The back window was busted 2 days before I picked it up... but its ok, I had a Parts car! The bumper that was on it was some urethane blitz thing... and the way it was installed made me cry! The headlights, bumper and a few other things were installed with heavy duty wood screws and beer bottle caps. So if any of you know who I am... you'll know I love restoring cars like I did my 98. So thats what I'm still in the middle of now. Here's a photo of the new window I installed on my own
And here's the last photo I took right before my timming belt broke. Notice I have new headlights, my HID's installed, the FB from my 98... fenders from my parts car... and I did alot more work to it...
I should have a new head in the next couple days... so I can get her back on the road... I'm working on dieing the vinyl and plastic on the interior black so my entire interior is black... yummmmmm

I thought you couldn't have HID without projectors? How'd you do it?

I think I go down in history as having the cleanest engine bay.
Once you get to the image make sure you click on the picture again to enlarge to get an idea of just how clean it is.

I also added a chrome brake and clutch master cylinder.
I am definitely not the highest horsepower or best tuned but my ride is clean!

Its not all that great having them. I had the conversion done 4 years ago. Now it really isn't smart drawing attention to your ride in Orlando. The smarter people simply build their engines and leave their body stock. It is kind of like putting audio stickers all over your car if you have 10K in stereo equipment inside.
If you have any questions on cleaning feel free to pm me. Tuning is left up to the greater minds like Joel and Terry.

Bad ass. That body work must have taken alot of time. Wow. S15 lamps dont run cheap either. Sick car. I hope you have the alarm of alarms on there.
Btw, my stock 98 headlamps are trashed from road debris pitting the hell out of the lens. I need to cop a few headlight restore kits from advanced. I want to do my headlamps and tails and my mom wants her headlights done on the "new" car she got.

I redid the lights on my 98... they were trashed and one guy sanded one headlight down with wood sand paper. And I got them completely clear by using Maguires Scratch Out or Scratch X. I just haven't took the time on my 97 right now since I'm moving n all.

I added certain 'net slang words to the filter and changed what the translate to. Deal with it.

Uhm, no! lol... Sorry but I don't know who told you that, but they are dip shits! HID are just, well HID! High Intensity Discharge. You can Put HID Bulbs in anything. And the HID kit I have, is just a kit to replace my stock 9006 Bulbs with HID's. The sockets are the same, its just an HID bulb instead of a Halogen. Mine are 10000K, I was hopeing for more of a blue glow, like those GM SUV's with the really bright HID's... I also retrofited these hids into my old Projector headlights I had on my black eclipse.
Here are my HID's in my HALO Projector Headlights (which weren't made for 9006 bulbs). I had to do some modifying on the Projector housing to get the right light. Also I modified the high beam housing to hold a 9007 Silverstar High Beam bulb! hella bright!

And here is the EXACT same HID Kit, just installed on my 97's Stock Headlights. Same socket (I'll go take a picture now.)

BTW, my 97's headlights are royaly trashed... sorry!
BTW... LED TAIL LIGHTS! I made them! But sold them as part of the deal to buy my 97!
