my 98 rs red lined its heat gague last week. pop'd the hood and it was nearly bone dry on coolant.

anywho. got some water, got her home, and after i jacked it up i noticed the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator was the cause of my leakage.

can this easily, and cheaply be replaced on my own?

also, could this leak be the tell-tale sign of some other problem?

Are you saying the plug was not there anymore? theys screw into the radiator so it might not have been tightened properly and came loose. Is this what you mean?

its in there, i didnt know they screwed in or whathaveyou

it never leaked form there before, well....atleast not like this

Yes its just a screw that plugs into your radiator.

Try either getting a new one or tighening that one down. Did you notice leaks from anywhere else?

Wow, reading this I feel really smart! Drain plug = screws in = what's the problem? It's either loose or the threads may have been messed up when someone was hurrying and screwed it in at a wrong angle if it was leaking from there.

If you do change radiators upgrade so you don't have to down the road if you plan on major mods.

radiator plug NOT lose.....it needs to be replaced.


the cars got almost 150k on it now and the plug never leaked.



its not "loose and needs to be tightened" as ive come to find out, it needs to be replaced. beings the cars been dramatically overheated the solder in the radiator could have been compromised.

apparently the radiator in this car has had numerous failures.


so fix one problem and hopefully solve a few others in the process
