How does one make a Short shifter I would like to know ?

cut the stock one and weld it back together

I want a shorter throw not just a shorter shifter I have seen some people online with other cars make there own factory shifters have shorter throws I want to do the same

The way you make the throw shorter is by making the distance between the pivot point and the connection to the shift cable longer.

Heres the write up:

1. Remove shifter from car
2. Cut shifter at the straight parts of the shifter
3. Weld together
4. Reinstall in car

Voila!

Like I said b4 that only makes the shifter shorter I want shorter throws. A write up or pics would be nice of how and where to cut and what to do to do any mods to the factory shifter ...

Just buy a short shifter from eBay if that's what you are looking for. I don't know anyone who has modified that on a stock shifter.

i have the ebay shifter, its a knockoff of the B&M shifter. The only thing I would suggest is getting better hardware. The nuts and bolts are pretty cheap. Mine stripped out. I went to the local hardware store to got all new nuts and bolts.

It think that I only paid like 20 for it.

The sort throw shifter raises the pivot point on the shifter handle. This is where the shorter throw comes in to play. Its an easy install, but you should do the symbroski(sp) kit. between the two, it make shifting a lot tighter.

The only way you would be able to do this is if you added more material to the portion underneath the pivot point (Didn't I already say that???). This would generally be too much fabrication for what it is worth. Just get the ebay version.

I got mine off of a member here for cheaper then ebay price. It replaced a shortened stock shifter. I like it. My only beef with it is that it actually Raised my shift knob back up half an inch to an inch.

edit: On a side note, I had no problems with the hardware that came with the B&M knock off. The only thing I added was some white lightening to smooth things up.

you can buy the knock off b&m and cut it, or do i as i did and cut 3 1/2 inches out of the stock shifter

Who has the kit for cheap and I will by the ebay short shifter but are there any companies in particular that I should look to buy from and what is should I get a 50 or 35 reduction in throw. And where do I put the other rollerblade bushings

I, and a few othes on here, have went with the seller "ebstores" for the short shifter. Get the kind that says "T6 Short Shifter" in the title. I was really impressed with the quality of it for the price. I have had mine for about 5-6 months and no problems.

Oh, and I also never had any problems with the hardware of it.

I would also recommend getting the Symborski Kit off of Machv.com It's around $30-35, but it is worth it. After I put it on I didn't notice too much of a difference, but as I kept driving it more and more, I did. Everyone who had driven my car loved the shifting of it after those 2 mods.

hey man have you seen this kind of short shifter before? i like it because it wont stick up high and thats what i want i dont want it all in front of the cd player i want it like down infront of the tray below it. if you have what do you think of it
