11826, A/F gauge parts Posted by Erik, Jan-10-02 11:30 AM
I thought I read something awhile ago about how to make your own numeric A/F gauge. I think Corbin had a link or something on his site. Maybe I'm just nutty. I'm poor as hell but really need a numeric A/F so I can hook up my S-AFC and start trying to tune my car.

Hmmm. . . He used to have it there, either way the $60 is well worth it unless you want to spend all that time to make it.

It sounds like it would be pretty easy to make. All an A/f gauge really is a voltage meter, correct? So what parts would you need to make a voltage meter? A lcd screen, a controller for the screen, and some kind of chip that determines what the voltage is... Im sure all the parts could be found at radio shack.... anyone know more info on the whole electronic subject...

I used to have complete instructions on my site. I got some worrysome e-mails periodically from people that weren't too good with electronics. I was afraid of people building them wrong and blowing up engines, not to mention the time I was spending helping people through it. I eventually decided to just sell them. I have all the supplies to build and calibrate them pretty quickly, so I just do it myself. When you buy it, you can be sure it was built properly and will provide accurate results. I think my price is fair. I get $15 for over an hour and a half of labor.

Dont get me wrong I think its a good deal... But I'm the type of person who likes to learn and do everythink myself... I like to know why and how stuff works.... but then comes my lazy side that just wants to read a write up and have someone else do all the thinking.

If you really do want to hack it out yourself, I'm happy to supply a parts list and let you go at it. I've always liked to figure things out by myself too. Just send me an e-mail, if you want details on the DVM.
