Hey guys,

My speedometer sensor has gone out on me and wanted to know if there was a website I could go to in order to purchase a new one. Autozone wants to charge me 60 for a new one but if there is a place where I can get it for cheaper, it would be a big help.

Are you sure it's the sensor? Have you pulled it out and checked the gear inside the transmission to see if that was broken? I think I have an extra sensor somewhere, I will look for it if you're interested.

You should check the gear as said above. Also, just pulling the sensor and reinstalling it may help. After mine stopped working, I pulled it, checked for problems, found zero, and put it right back in. No issues since.

Ill double check all that and get back to you guys, I took the cluster apart today and checked the needles and connection in the back and it all seemed to be fine so I will take a look at it all tomorrow befor I change the oil.

Ok, let me give you a couple words of advice here. First of all, there are three things you want to pay attention to. the speedometer 'sensor' is a little plug with a metal pin that comes out of it that has a plastic gear stuck onto the end of it. that plastic gear is spun by a larger gear wrapped around the differential kinda like clockwork in a watch. When you take off the sensor and pull it away from the tranny, for me, the little gear fell off the end, and the only way to get it back was to remove the tranny. Personally, this happened to me, so I just drove it and it popped back up where I was able to reach it(VERY small hole and EXTREMELY difficult to get back on I tried for days to get it out and rubbed my fingers raw and bleeding). If it stays on when you pull it out, then even your luckier than I. To test the sensor, have someone sit in your car with the keys on, and connect a drill to the sensor and spin it. if the speedo works in the dash you are good to go and its probably the gear on the differential is broken or loose. If its that, then your only option is to either deal with it, or fix it when you rebuild. If you do take the tranny apart, make sure you hit the plastic gear with a rubber mallet so it POPS snugly onto the differential. I failed to do this, and my speedo worked for less than one mile and it came off again.

I have the same prob dude, and you don't need a drill, you can spin it with your hands , and someone inside the car can see if it works or not.

I don't want to take the tranny apart to put that gear back in. I have 10 month running without a speedometer.
