117806, Car wants to die sometime. Posted by ChloRure, Oct-16-07 05:07 PM
First time it was 2 months ago... car was fine than suddenly I was crusing and I felt the car would die (battery light come on and rpm felt down to about 100rpm... than back to normal) was ok for around 2min than another time. Put the car on park... let it idle same problem. Disconnect the battery for 1 hour (reset ecu), problem solved. Now 2 months later, problem start again want to die when I left the highway, rpm felt to 100 than go back to normal, later I was waiting at a redlight than the car died. Start it over and was fine to home. Reset the ecu again... good for 1 day, same problem again. My check engine are too rich and map sensor too high (Running turbo and built engine with 440cc s-fmu)
What can cause this to happen ? Can be a leak in intercooler piping ?

Sane problem today, car died on me and the battery was very very low, can a bad battery or alternator can cause this if the car is already running ?

I bet your main fuse has blown. Check under the hood in the fuse box. It's the 160A fuse or so. It secures the charging of your battery. Otherwise the alternator might be bad. The car is then firing on your battery alone. Also check the alternator wiring. Might be shortcut to the EGR pipe.

fixored for spelling to make things more understandable.
if the car will start or crank, I wouldn't worry about the fuse. check/charge your battery. inspect the battery cables, our cars are old enought to have to worry about nasty corrosion in all the battery cables. cut them open an inch or two with a razor blade to check. if theres any corrosion farther in than an inch or two just replace the whole wire. once you rule out bad wiring and the battery, drive to the nearest auto parts store and have them do a charging system check. if the alternator isn't putting out enough charge, driving will drain the battery. at this point think about pulling out the alternator, it's a bit of a bitch where it is on the back of the engine, but it can be done without pulling the driveshaft. repalce as necessary

Yup, sorry for the mixup. Guess my mind was too fast for my typing ;-) ment shortcircuit of course. Anyway, had the same problems before, but even when the main fuse was shot (the white 160A, in the front) the car would still crank and start. So check it, be sure.

it won't run tho, it'll just die cause no power is going to the pump
