Hey guys i checked the searches (for more than one forum) and i can't find anything that is exactly like my problem so help if you can. here's the deal: 98 eclipse gs

when im driving down the road and depress the clutch or throw it in neutral, the the engine RPMs rev at 2300-2000. only when i come to a COMPLETE stop, after about 2 or 3 seconds the idle drops, but only to 1500. ive check all vaccum lines and it appears that i dont have any leaks. i also have a new IAC from the rebuild. TPS resistance seems to be correct (4.6 Kohms) 3.5-6.5 is the window right? I also found out that when i unplug the cable that goes to the EGR solenoid that the idle goes to where it should be (900 RPM), but it still has the hanging idle at coast. anyone know when the EGR solenoid connector should be charged/uncharged

then last night, for experimental resons, i started the car, put it in neutral, got out and pushed the car. once the car started moving (3-5 MPH) the idle jumped up to the 2300 RPM range again all by itself. (MIND YOU THAT I WAS NOT IN THE CAR). is there any relation between the speed sensor in the tranny to the the engine idle? this one has got me stumped.... anyone have ANY idea what could've caused this?

oh i almost forgot, a few weeks ago i was at the gas station. when i was done filling up and i turned the car on the idle jumped to 5000 RPM and stayed! WTF?! i had to slide the hell outta the clutch to get home..

help please anyone, like i said i'm totally lost on this one....

Have you looked at your throttle return spring? If it's worn out or really dirty it could cause it to stick at higher than normal rpm's.

What is it with all these 2g's getting posessed? My buddy's gst would not shut the fuck up. Alarm came on by itself and stayed on at the worst possible times. My car wanted to steer where it felt like. Your car just sounds pissed off at the world.

I think so yes. my cars idle isnt as high as yours when moving, but after i come to a complete stop it lowers the rpms.

sounds like you need a new IAC valve...I have a new one if you need it...PM me for details

i just put a new IAC sensor in it 6 months ago.... the old one wasn't bad i was just rebuilding the engine and replacing everything so there would'nt be any "future prolems" i switched the new one with the old sotck one, and still the same result. i put the newer one back in and still same thing...

What about the MAP senor? is their any way to test it to make sure it's woking properly? i figure if it's bad, the ECU thinks pressure is constantly changing. it would then adjust the ammount of fuel being sprayed into the engine, right?

and why does the idle drop to where it should be when i unplug the EGR solenoid?

Yes. When the car is moving, the idle is higher. They all do it. it's normal.

You have a bigass vacuum leak somewhere, though, which is making the whole thing worse.

I had the same problem with mine... as it turns out... it wasn't anything out of the extraordinary, I turned on the car and as it revs up (by itself) I started moving the plugs (tps) & (iac)and there it was... the revs came down to normal.. I just had to clean them out and fix it with some tape (for the time being) u might try that

get access to a datlogger and see what the throttle percentage is. It should be 0 and stable. if it moves around the idle will change up and down. That would explain why you had 5000 momentarily at the gas station.

If thats the case your TPS is shot.
