Sorry for all the reading but,

This problem with my car just seems to not want to go away at all. It all started very slightly before, like small amounts of overheating before, then very slowly got worse, so i replaced my thermostat. Didn't solve the problem at all. But then my water pump went bad, so i had to replace that, and then the problem seemed to get a little worse, and the coolant would start to boil over into the overflow tank leaving the whole coolant sytem very low. So I replaced the radiator, and it helped for a little bit but the problem was still there, and came back. So now I took out my thermostat to see if it would still happen, and it still boils all the coolant out into the overflow tank, but a little slower than normal. The guage in my car will raise to almost the H when this happens and I will lose my heat inside, but if I rev the motor up kinda high and keep it there, the temp guage drops and the heat comes back. It will do that with or without the thermostat in there.

So if anyone has a clue to what might be going on please help me!!!

Replace the headgasket and have the head checked for straightness, it's most likely warped by now. That should solve your problem.

I had the same issue as fas the boiling over into the overflow tank. I changed my head gasket and it fixed it, even though it took 3 times to get it right, dont know why, haha.

I'm suspicious of a heater core. Your loss of heat is intriguing and then it coming back when you rev the motor. I wonder if the heater core is plugged, preventing adequate flow throughout the system.

I agree with ^^^^^^^it sounds more like a clog in the heater core

I wouldnt rule out the possibility of headgasket though

so far i've heard three or four people today tell me its probably the head gasket, but i just replaced it like 12,000 miles ago maybe, i dont see how it has gone bad already. but i guess anything can happen when it comes to DSMs. But for the heater core, if it was clogged, it would at least blow out somewhat warm air from the hot coolant trapped inside. It seems like the heate core just has air in it, since the heat completely goes away.

oh well, I guess I will probably be ripping apart the motor this weekend to see if I have any internal damage from when my water pump blew, and to check the head and block to see if there flat.

Have you done any tests to indicate that it's a head gasket? Compression check, oil/coolant check, white exhaust?

I'm not saying it's not possible, but do you have any other confirmation that it could be it?

It broke again probably because you re-used the head bolts, and didn't use ARP studs.

If you're really worried about the heater core, bypass it by disconnecting both hoses from the firewall, and clamping them both to a 4" section of metal pipe. But it's not the heater core.

Cool mod, disconnect the heater but could you or Me still use the DEfrost for the WINTER.

I only use my DEFROST for heat any for winter

clogged heater core is not the problem. Anyone suggesting it needs to refrain from loggin in for the next decade. Problem is the cooling system is getting air in it which is why the heat fades in and out. Where is the air comming from is the issue. Could be head gasket or a bad hose or cracked in the block.

This is just for toubleshooting. It basically bypasses the core so you can narrow stuff down. You will have no heat for defrost or anything if you do this.

I sure hope this was fixed since it was almost a year ago since this post wqs made... who is digging up all these old heater core posts. Arghh!
