117522, What can i get from GS-t?? Posted by 95talonesiboy, Oct-01-07 09:42 AM
sooo i have a 96' Gs-T spyder sitting on my driveway, with no tranny i was gonna buy a tranny and put it in but its not gonna be worth it cuz the body is fucked up and has bad title, so i was wondering is there anything i can use from it b4 i start parting it out? like injectors maybe?

First off, how bad is the body? are we talking smashed rear panels? hoods, fenders, and bumpers are easily replaced if there is no frame damage. As far as the title goes, what do you mean by bad? Do you legally own the car? If it is salvage or something it makes no difference, really, if you don't plan on trying to sell it. You've got a 4G63 powerd car there...They're getting harder to find... If I were you, I would buy a new/rebuilt tranny and replace the body panels that are hosed up. And, BTW, welcome.

thanks for the welcome :)..ok so the driver door is totaled, driver fender has a dent the front bumper and headights are smashed in, the hood is dented , the roof leaks, motor has an idle problem, srs light is on, motor seems to be leaking oil badly, interior smells like something died in it, title is salvaged/repaired or something like that, the papers it came with shows it was in a flood probably why it has that title, but besides that i drove it about 50 miles before the tranny was taken out and it pulled/spooled nicely but it just seems liek too much moeny to invest into it just to get it running and looking right

117525, Gentlemen we can rebuild her... Posted by Fallen4ng31, Oct-02-07 02:18 AM
Well, new fenders will run you just shy of $100 shipped to your door. Hoods about $200. Tops from $250-500. There are used doors on e-ghey right now for about $80-$100. Head lights about $100 as well. Lastly your bumper, I've seen several up in the for sale section recently; You could probably pick one up for $50-$100. The motor, however is a different story. You could try to rebuild your current one, or source one from one of the other members (Which would probably be your best bet, if you're on a budget.) So about a grand for your body parts, and figure another $1500 for the motor, either a good rebuild or a used stocker. That's not so bad; I suppose it just depends what you paid for it, and what you're willing to put in it / to what you'll get out of it. Just my .02.

Sounds like any other DSM around here, so whats the problem again? :shrug
Just playing. I bought my car for $2700 with 157k miles on it and a salvage title. Ran perfect until two months ago when I blew a headgasket. By that time I had spent $1600 on a paint job, $600 in exterior parts (wing, skirts, tails, reverse lights, 2gb conversion, headlights)$100 on performance ( ebay CAI, Pacesetter header) and another $400 on suspension (tokico blues performance kit), after registration and insurance for the past 3 years this car has cost me more than it is worth. Then again I just started to rebuilt the engine which will be another $2000, and the transmission will be overhauled shortly there after. All this just shows you that if you really have the love for something, what ever it is, money is not really an issue. Hell, I'm a full time college student with a part time job, and even though the spending hurts some times, the pride I have in my car is even greater.
Give it some thought, and hope you stick around.

No problem. Do what I do. Part it out to fund your good 420a!

Well with the cost of just trying to get the spyder looking right, and running right i can probably build my 420a and boost the shit out of it...dont get me wrong if i had the money (first year college student) i would love to have a turbo convertable eclipse..but i dont have and im not willing to spend that kinda money at this point..i was just wondering if there's anything i can use from the 4g63 on my 420a talon like injectors or anything like that? im getting ready to boost so far i have walbro255hp fuel pump, vortech 12:1 FMU, a t3/t4 .57 trim.

Haha. I'd keep the gst. Seriously. The sheer power numbers the 4g63t can put down on stock internals are amazing. I'd fix it. That's just me though. I'm all for buying a peice of shit and gold plating it.
Speaking of 4g63's, i'm going to the darkside. Before anyone protests, it's a 2gb in great condition. All it needs is a head. Since i'm lazy, i'm thinking i'll pull the whole motor and drop in a six bolt. I'm about to call my bank up and get a loan for 400 bucks so i can jump on this thing before somebody else who knows what it is jumps on it. It'll be my dd anyway since i refuse to sink money into the gst until the 2gnt is done. I went to the junkyard scoping out 2.4L motors, turbo bits and whatnot. I might have a conquest i can gank some parts from since my buddy just bought an rx7 and doesn't need the car anymore.... Dont start something you cant finish i always say.
If it comes down to it, i have a non-walking 7 bolt with good comp sitting in a shop right now. All i have to do is come up with 300 bucks and the time to pull it out of my friend's gst.

I remember spending over 3 thou including the car on my RS, built head, nice paintjob, redid the interior, but in the end it wasnt worth it, I went to the darkside lol, bought a 98 GST never looked back. Most of the guys down here say boost the 420a on 8 psi, and you can beat a stock GST, maybe true since the turbo youre most likely using is a bigger one than stock, you have all hard piping bigger injectors etc... But on a 4g63, upgrade piping, intake, 1g bov raise up the boost to 15, and say good by to the boosted 420a all in less than 500 bucks, spend another 500 bucks and get a turbo upgrade, another 2 to 300 bucks and get fuel, tune it... wow what a difference, keep the GS T, right now who cares about the aesthetics, get yourself a 6 bolt since your motor is done, fresh head, fresh stock bottom end, since the tranny is done, get yourself a nice TRE tranny. Youll be fuckin set, then its fun modding time.
trust me you wont regret it.

Wow thats a good reply there edxmon,
I'm in the same boat except for me its two part-time jobs and childsupport. So its bigger pride for me, half goes to my kid and other my car. Not sure if anyone else is in childsupport boat but I'm not No dead beat like some. Just one of those things thats with being married and having child, the childsupport thing is added in the fine print on the marriage license, they don't tell you about until you get a divorce.
