Im not sure why most ppl keep refering to the 420A as a neon engine, correct me if im wrong but isnt the 420A a Chrysler engine that was used on various cars ranging on brands such as Plymouth, Dodge, DSM? And one other thing, and correct me if Im wrong again, but wouldn't our NTs be more in tune with (Diamond Chrysler Motors) since we have a Mitsubishi Body and a Chrysler Engine? Ok, its time to get my butt into DSM101

Dude I couldn't really say for sure but my car is probly at bout 165 CRANK hp. It is good enough to whip civic's and the like and I even get the jump on some Legends round here :).... I don't drag race my car but on the straight away in Spokane Raceway Park I hit at least 135 mph (it is a bit longer than a quarter mile) and I do the full course in 2:17. Best time. I average 2:20, I can tell you this, last time I was aginst a 93TT RX7, a BMW M5, a Porche boxter and a Honda Accord, all cool! and the only competition for me was the BMW and the RX7! The BMW whooped me good but I accually kept up to the RX7 pretty well- he would pull away in the strait but I always caught him in the twisties.
P.S. the course is 2.5 mile long.

LAST EDITED ON 01-Oct-01 AT 10:33 PM (PST)Well the main reason our engine is referred to as the neon engine is because the neon was the 1rst and only car to have it and the next car it ended up in (a yr later) was the eclipse/talon. All press coverage of the GS/RS/ESi even prior to release referred to it as a turned around and refined version of "the neon engine". Diamond Star cars prior to ours were quite frankly mitsus and rebadged mitsus (laser/eagles). None ever carried chysler parts or development (other than styling which was always worse on the chryler cars save the 1G talon) so containing chrysler and mitsu parts was never in the spirit of DSM (although it was in the spirit of being able to classify eclipses as domestic, reason why we got chrysler engines). Really the 420A is Chrylers new (then new) 4cyl flagship to replace the previous 2.2L. In various forms it is the only 4cyl you'll find in chrysler cars from the 4cyl carivan to the pt cruiser to the neon. I guess they should call it "the chrysler 4". I didn't even like the idea of a chyrler engine in an eclipse but the more I found out the more there was to like.
Oh I have nothing to brag about and never will because whatever can be done will have to be done within the limits of the Apexi SAFC, MSD DIS2 and prepped stock rods which will be 15psi max. Once I can actually run 15psi my goal is then to make 15psi perform like 20psi via headwork and things you'll find out when I get there. I just assume start a new project before going beyond that.

well my car used to be Turbo charged (AC Speed turbo kit) which I had fun with for 6 months, ah that was more like 3 years ago, and once I blew the motor, I decided to go NA all the way. I started with Mutiney ported and milled head, ported intake manifold, and bored TB along with their regrinds "cams". I then decided to let go of the Mutiny cams and put the stock ones back for another 2 years, then I went ahead and got the mods you see below.
Adel
Ported TB and Intake manifold ** ported and milled head ** PT rockers and lifters ** Crane Drag cams #16 ** Crane valve springs and retainers ** AEM cam gears ** Hotshots headers ** Greddy Cat back ** Iceman CAI ** S-AFC ** and the usual handling mods

So you mean a current mods list? My dynos suck (only one is 264fwhp at 14psi and crappy clutch - that sucks) so maybe I can get some new ones soon. Oh, you mentioned Greg - he just ran a 13.1@108mph with a 1.92 60' using slicks on only 12psi. Not bad. That makes him faster than me since I have no decent timeslips (last time I ran on much less boost I ran 100mph and I will not mention my 60' or et) or dynos :D My mods are basic compared to some of these guys, but that is how I prefer it :).

LAST EDITED ON 02-Oct-01 AT 12:26 PM (PST)What can I say Fast420A... I like a challange :-) And I did mean to type one of the fastest NAs on the board. But I do have a wee bit o catching up a do (in best scottish accent)
It's not a matter of desire... it's a matter of money... want to donate ;-) The little stuff along the way I can get, bit by bit... it's the final toy that I'll be in need of some serious saving for... ;-)
Winter projects: install the rest of the stuff below. take some thing apart and see where I can shave a few pounds. Save my Christmas money for some toys... Prep the car for my dual exhaust, when the weather gets nice...
With all this talk I may have to install the cams before I have a complete head... maybe a quick swap and be running ~10:1 compression... hmmm...
Time to pray to the money Gods!!!

It's a good thread, why not?
Here's my slow and silly list.
Hollowed out cat w/stock 2gnt exhaust.
Bolted a cone filter to what's left of the stock intake.
Other shit:
Green bulbs for foot lights Slave restrictor mod
Haha.
ALOT more to come in the next 6 months.

rofl @ old school thread
For those that were around back then...I bought Pure Rage's block years ago...and whoever put the motor together was an idiot -- every bearing in the bottom end spun, thrashed the crank and blued one of the rod caps. Motor didnt even last 3K miles -- took it apart, and the mains were all in upside down (95 blocks used different bearings than the 96+)
Only thing still in the motor from the original build is the block itself, pistons and the oil pump. I do still have the sienze rods sitting in a box, but one needs to be replaced....
