116735, EVO MOTOR IN 420a!!!!!!!! Its being done.... Posted by eclipsetuner_21, Jan-26-08 11:04 PM
I found a link to some guys who are putting a 2003-2004 evo motor in a 420a. This is a dream come true and I have always wondered if it can be done.

Interesting, but there's been no posts in the thread you linked since November. I mean congratulations they stuck it in there, but there's nothing about it actually running

And what's the point of it? Just buy a GST/GSX if you really want a 4G63 that bad. What a waste of money that could have built up a 420a instead.
EDIT: Wonder if this is the wolvorine guy from my sig lol

I wonder if he realizes that even if they get the car running unless they shell out some serious money to convert the transmission to 2 wheel drive the car will not move under its own power.
I wish people would learn that the fact that the swap is impractical is the reason why everyone says that it can't be done reasonably.

zOMGz o_O
Nobody intelligent ever said it couldn't be done. We all just said it wasn't worth the time or money, since the only reason to do it was for never-been-done-before credit. Maybe these guys will pull it off. Then what? You think this means that you and all your buddies will be able to just swap an Evo motor into your 2GNT in a weekend? I doubt it.
Evo VIII+ long blocks are still running $4000+ on eBay. Having the CVs reworked like they did is not something you just do in your parents' garage on a Saturday, and even if those guys feel generous enough to make additional sets of those custom motor mounts, you better believe they're going to be charging a pretty penny for them (likely $1000+). Add an Evo ECU, transmission, and a custom 2WD block-off plate for that transmission, and you've easily got a $7000-$8000 project which STILL leaves you with under 300hp and FWD.
If you want to get all excited about the snowball's chance in hell you, personally, have of spending almost $8000 to turn your 2GNT into an Evo-powered GST, then have your fun, kid. For $8000, I'd keep the 2GNT all motor and just buy a GSX to park next to it.
I hate these threads.

Yea i dot get the OP. how is it a dream come true....if you want your dream come true then just go pay the money. Hell you could put a chevy small block it in too if you wanted....all depends how much money you want to spend.
Getting the motor and trans in the car is the easy part.....the wiring is the tricky part but its not so difficult that someone with an extensive automotive knowledge cant figure out.

You know, for $7000, you could probably have a tubbed-out, RWD with a 350 under the hood that would stand a good chance of lifting the front wheels. :wary

The only motor swap i care about in the 2gnt is the 2.4L.
Anything else is just retarded.
GSX. For $4k more than the swap, you can get a mint r32-33 skyline gts.......
skyline > 4g63 swapped 2gnt

You're kidding right?
Motor already swapped in? That's gotta be hella expensive!
Speaking of evo's, anyone seen Street tuner challenge in the past few days. Dr. Charels is fucking awesome. I've been seeing him on tv more and more these days. Looks like a fun guy to work with. He and skunk 2 built an awesome evo for STC. I'd hump it.

That passenger side motor mount is fucking pathetic! The design is terrible and puts all the weight on the welds and not the frame rail right there, someone needs to slap this guy.
its FWD! AHHH! ;(
so he's the first one to do it, and he's doing it terribly...
sorry to be an ass, but its true.

Your talking about where he intends to weld the plates for the mount bolt? The actual mount appears to be billet. I was thinkning both drivers and passenger welds to the frame rails were rather shoddy and halfassed but i an kinda anal i guess.

no I mean the design of it is ok but the actual mounting is terrible. What needs to be done is a plate maybe 6x6 needs to be shaped to that outside corner and top of the rail. Tabs and gussets welded to that. That way it has the support of the rail. It looks like he's just going to weld tabs on right there and I can see it ripping off pretty easy.

The only reason I listed this was to provide unique information to 2GNT and to show that someone has chosen to "waste there time and money" and chosen to take the never-been-done-before credit.
As for you who say the quote that has been repeated all to many times "Just buy a GST/GSX if you really want a 4G63 that bad." I own a 91 4g63 that I am building. I have chosen a platform that has been proven to make power. I personally do not want to spend my money putting an Evo motor in a 2GNT, It would be smarter um...how would you say, go to the dealership and buy and evo with and evo motor already swapped in it.
I personally love my 2gnt 99 gs oz edition with 48,000 original miles. I support 2GNT with everything. I am in the process of researching wether to build the 2.0, purchase the 2.2 stroker, swap the 2.4L cloud, or the very unique 2.6L':evilgrin

How can you put an Evo motor into a 420A? That's gotta be one hell of a project; putting an engine into an engine. But seriously, it seems like a cool swap, but a real waste of money and time. Good luck taking off that timing cover.
