116632, Car keeps shutting off Posted by ETNDSM, Feb-17-08 05:07 PM
Hello. I have a 97 talon with the 420a. it has about 170k on there. sadly when the car gets to a 1\4 tank of gas it shuts off at different intervals. sometimes when your in turns, sometimes when sitting there. sometimes while your doing either 20 or 60 on the road. So I started by at first reading some other post by changing some vacum hoses , then changed the gasket by the throttle body that goes into the manifold. Nothing. So I was thinking that it has to be fuel mainly since it only does it when its at 1\4 or below. I read somewhere that the 95's had weak fuel pumps. Wondering if anyone here had any suggestions as to what I should do next. Some say the ECU some say the fuel pump. But these are the same people who told me to change the gaskets. Im leaning twoards the fuel pump. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Replace fuel filter first.

I would try the fuel pump. It sounds to me like that would be it since you say it happens when you tank gets low. just my .02
