for the slow starting I'd check your battery cables. inspect them for tightness, corrosion outside and inside the cables, and general wear and tear. If anything looks less than perfect replace it. I feel a bit like a broken record recommending this but it's such a commonly neglected item that we tend to forget that copper oxidizes over time and loses it's conductivity. I have replaced the battery/starter/alternator cables on every car I have and have had with the exception of my "new" 04 subaru wrx (I'm sure it will eventually need them but it's good for now)
as for the car dying when you come to a stop, could be related to the cables but does your speedometer work?
