116393, Gas tank lowering for roll over valve.
Posted by eclipsed08, Mar-07-08 05:35 AM
OK....started this last night and ran out of daylight....

I have the tank ready to come down, this is a really awkward job by yourself BTW. I just had to come in the house and wash the rust off my face as well as grab a flashlight.

I'm on my back with the car jacked up two feet in the air. I will have some pics up hopefully soon as well as a write up of what I find.

This may be the cure for our CEL #31 that bugs us all.

oh, geez, I hate dropping tanks. I actually spent the money to have someone else do the work on my explorer when the fuel pump went out because I wasn't about to deal with that giant tank and the 22 gallons of fuel sitting in it

the fuel pump is easy to change on our cars....Can't tell you why for the life of me didn't they put an access panel to the roll over valve.

I might circle cut a hole in the body and make one...New mod for 2gnt's...

"roll over valve hatch mod...LOL"

sounds like a decent idea, just do a writeup on where to cut the hole so that we don't have to drop the tank

Actually it's NOT...I have made the hole and within 10 min I had the roll over valve OUT!!

I found the issue, the car bottomed out one day and I remember doing it. The roll over valve has a crack in it.

I will have pics and stuff as soon as I get access to my camera.

This was an easy job...But I did cut a brake line with my sawzall.

Complete write up and cutting specs soon!!!

Dreaded #31 your DONE!!!

You guys know there is a service port to pressurize the Emissions system to 1psi and find leaks right?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but did you do a write up on the evap test and how to remover roll over easily? I would love to know how to test it all because I'm trouble shooting it all now and the Haynes doesn't tell me much.

You can cut a hole in the floor pan right under the seat. You can look with a flashlight under the fuel pump cover and see where the hole should be cut.

PM me if you need any further help...

Also like the OP said there are fuel lines you need to be cautious of.

Thank you. I just found my Haynes book so it should be easy to find.
