116345, Coolant temp needle doesn't move..... Posted by 2GeclipseRS, Jan-26-08 01:24 PM
Essentially, if you idle or warm your car up for 30 minutes, the needle should move up a little, no matter how cold it is outside.
My needle hasn't budged in some time. Even after a decent drive for 15 miles redlining 1st, 2nd and third often....
It's generally been 30-50 degrees outside. Most of my driving thus far has happened between 30-40 degrees on average lately.
It's been like that for about a month or so now. I hadn't noticed before because i had a picture of my gf blocking it....
Normal or is my car fucked up?
Where do i start troubleshooting?
My guess is my thermostat is stuck or a fuse or sensor is blown...

I'd check the wiring to the smaller sensor on the thermostat housing. If that checks out, I'd replace it and go from there.

Okey dokey.
I'll check it out as soon as i get home from work.....or i'll just check it out at work. Maybe we unplugged something when we ripped the ac and power steering out.

Everything looks plugged in.
The only thing just hanging are the wires for the ac and ps. I have no idea why it isn't working.

Thermostat is stuck open, that is most likely the problem. When it sticks open the coolant constantly flows and doesn't sit in the block long enough to heat up. Since it is cold out it stays even coolder. When was the last time you replaced the thermostat? It is easy to replace.

I'm not saying thats wrong, but if you let the thing sit for 30 minutes idling it should warm up a little. Grab the upper radiator hose to see if its getting warm. I would just replace the ect sensor.

How much for the sensor and thermostat?
Who has them for the lowest price?

Just get them from your local parts store. They are both cheap enough. Even with a stuck thermostat though you would still see a temp increase..so its not that just replace the sensor if you want..

What is the part number for that so advanced doesn't jew me up another part for a 4g63?
I have the thermostat and o-ring, i just haven't put it in yet.
To rule out the fuse for that sensor, where is the fuse? What would cause the sensor or fuse to fail in the first place?
