$15000USD for Quaife 6 speed FWD sequential tranny...and you still would have to make it fit...

Only $15,000? No problem...

Hehe if I was gonna spend that much, I would just buy the Nissan Skyline 4WD Tranny, Axles, ECU, Electronic Differentials and driveshaft. Then i'd have the world's best "smart" AWD Eclipse.

The Nissan ECU can make you car RWD or 4WD depending on the situation i.e. accelerating in a straght line or cornering. It also helps hugely on launches and has not AWD drag at high speeds!

Seriously though, I bet that Chrysler will release a 6spd 2.4L / 2.0L car soon. And I'll bet that the tranny would bolt up with minor mods. The real question remains WHY though? I mean why do you need the extra gear?

Lower 1-3 gears for better acceleration, a tall 6th for better fuel economy.

Yeah sixth would be great for those road trips.

And I'm sure it would bolt up easi with the change of at most a flywheel and clutch, but it's finding the HUB and axle combination in the right legnths to work, that would be dificult.

...I couldn't have put it better. I wouldn't mind our stock 5 speed with a sixth up to 180MPH(gear limit of coarse). That would be some NICE economy. Like 38-40+ in 6th cruzin'

BTW Michael_97RS: Axles can be custom fabricated and I know how to mate slightly different trannies. If there as a tranny close enough in relation yet pleasing and simple to shift I would be intrested in that

Personally, I think that out 1st gear is extremely agressive, but the 5th gear does "cruise" at very high speeds vs. RPM.

As for custom Axles, I can't see them costing much more than racing axles from http://driveshaftshop.com/ ...

My hope was that a six speed would make an appearance in the Avenger or PT Cruiser. They were rumored to be put in both for a while... I don't know of any chrysler front wheel drive car that was equipted with a six-speed... in fact I can't think of any front wheel drive car with a six speed.

Hmmm but, just the thought of 180mph gear limited makes me smile!!!

I only used my 6'th gear in my stealth when "cruising" over 95 mph. when racing, I never go into 6'th until about 150 or so. as far as I am concerned, having a 6'th gear is kinda pointless in any car unless the car is going to be going ludicrous speed, or you like setting cruise control at 100+ mph (MuRiX can attest to that ;) ).

bring it on............

To which one? The fact that you actually go fast enough to have to shift into 6th gear during a race or that large amounts of space and time can be made when your cruise control allows being set in the 3 digit range. ;) At this point a person would have a new respect for speed and why some cars are equipped with 13" brakes..

Reasons like this are exactly why I want Z rated tires, a 6th gear and the Baer dual piston caliper 13" rotor brake kit ;-)

the 6th gear would be awesome. cruising at 75mph and pushing 3-3200 RPMs cuts gas mileage. if we coudl cruise at 2300 or so, we'd get a lot better fuel economy. Then, they could put 1-2-3-4 close, and space out 5 and 6.
