IF you look in the picture you can see below/next to the oil sending unit, a bracket, it's about 6" in length and 1" wide it has holes on either end for mounting bolts and part of the harness is tie strapped to it.

Also(since the car isn't here with me) can anyone tell me if indeed that there is 1 or 2 wires that runs to the oil sending unit. I am trying to get a new one for when I go up there, but it seems as if there is 2 or 3 different types.

Not really sure what it is used for. Must not be too important since I left it out when I put the motor back in. Oh, and the oil sending unit only has one wire.

Probably the block to intake manifold bracket for the cruise control.

hmmm, well I know before the car died the cruise control was working and I didn't remove this bracket from anything, it was just laying there when I pulled the head off.

I am still on my search for the pivot bolt for my tensioner bracket. Dealer says that it can only be purchased as an assembly with the entire bracket. I don't want to shell out ~$150 just because I need a stupid bolt. I think I am going to just make one on the lathe at work tomorrow.

I could be wrong but I think it's actually supposed to go back to the side of the block just above the oil pan like some kind of brace.

That was my first thought too. Kind of a PITA to put on IMO, so it wouldn't surprise me if someone left it half off.

It wouldn't suprise me either, there is a lot of stuff that was half assed on this car. That is why I am trying to take the time to eliminate most, if not all of the stupid crap while I have it torn apart replacing the head. I am still in need of that stupid pivot bolt for the timing tensioner bracket.

There is a pic of where it goes. The top of it bolts to the intake manifold. There should be two brackets like this. Also, what year is your car? It your sender unit looks way different than my stock did.

And why is there oil all over? Did you have a leak?

If you are just going to get a new sender, why don't you just get a aftermarket oil pressure gauge to put there, so you can actually monitor the PSI?

yep it's block to intake, Seems like its only purpose is to hold the harness .

The car is a 97, thanks for the picture of where the bracket goes. Why is there oil all over? not entirely sure, I have had the car for less than a month, and it is stranded 5 hours away in Toronto currently with the head torn off due to a bolt failure on the timing belt tensioner. I am assuming that maybe the cam cover had been leaking? It is apparent that this is at least the second time the head has been off the car, based on the fast that the head gasket I took off was a fel-pro and the bolt holes for the cam cover on the head were all messed up and drilled out for (get this) different bolts AND nuts on the bottom side.

I have a head that I rebuilt to put on, new idler pullys and a new waterpump and belt. I am trying to find that bolt for the tensioner



I considered getting a pressure gauge at some point and I guess I can agree with you that I should just remove the sending unit and do it now rather than later. Really I just want to hurry up and get the damn car on the road again.

It is, it is the block to manifold bracket. Your cruise would still work without this bracket. I never put these back on my cars. No problems.

As mentioned, it is the block to manifold support, but I would argue that they are kinda important. Not to the car running obviously, but the intake manifold is cast aluminum which is not very strong at all. If you were to put any kind of weight or pressure on the manifold (while working on the car for example) you could possible crack your flange. You can figure what would need to be done from there.

For the record, every time I've removed and reinstalled my engine, I've used the intake manifold as a loop hole for the chains. I don't have those brackets, and I've never had a problem.

I just took the extra intake manifold off the old head and it's a pretty stout piece of aluminium. unless someone's hogged that thing out thinner than safely should be done the brackets are pretty much overkill

Good advice, thanks for the info. I guess I will see what my best option is when I go to put the thing back together. I hope this friday will truly be good friday and I will be driving the beast home.
