115731, Quad Throttle Bodies....
Posted by MrSlick, May-06-03 06:24 PM
All,

I am trying to guage interest in a Quad throttle body setup for our cars.
I am going to be developing a quad throttle body this week and next for our cars.
The first incarnation wil utilise the existing lower intake section...

I would like to know the answers to the following questions:

1.) How many would be TRULY interested... i.e. if one was made, would you buy it?
2.) How much would you pay?

The 2nd is important because I will bring the product to us all for the lowest price possible.... so give me a ballpark figure to work with...

Lee.

what would be the ease of installation and possible power gains? Sounds interesting as an alternative to the indy manifold.

Having a quad throttle body on our car will have a negitive effect, due to lack of high air velocity, unless you have a turbo, in that case the extra turbo lag would compliment the free'er flowing TB.

Most people will agree they are not practicle for a small displacment engine.

if you do come up with a QTB setup your going to have to include a haltech fuel ECU (or look into the megasquirt) in it along with a highflow fuel pump and larger injectors.

a QTB setup can easily be machined from a block of aluminum and then use a lathe to turn the TB plates/shaft,etc.. o-ring the shaft between each throttle body and you can even machine the map/vacuum line sections right into the block of aluminum. you do need to also machine an adapter plate to line up the runners on the lower intake manifold being that the 2 runners in the middle are offset from the others.

and a QTB setup would have awesome results on our cars, but you will need some drag cams and higher compression to really see the full benefits.

and if you can't beat 2100 bucks complete then its not worth it as RPW already has a quat TB setup for us, or can make one easily, Ive already been quoted 2100 w/haltech from them

I still say it can be done without a stand alone. The S-AFC or other piggyback should be able to allow a great enough amount of adjustability to get her running. And it has been done on a stock ECU for the Neon guys.

I am slowly as a side thing working on mine I have the TB, and just need to get the lower manifold sorted out and build my vaccum rail. I want to get a couple other things done first before I put that on, so I'm not hurrying. I was hoping for the Shoot Out, but highly unlikely.

I don't think that using a stock lower plenum is worth it. If I was going to pay for one, which you could sell for around $800/$1000 including an S-AFC, I would imagine. I would want a new lower manifold. I just need to find time with my welder... oh... Steve :D

Yes this set up will be far more benefitial with cams and high compression. A quad TB set up is not going to be your first bolt on here, at least not if you're smart, and the gains available are greater than any single TB set up, in my opinion anyway.

look in the archives and you'll see it has been done already by a neon dude, he even posted movies of the car running woohoo man did that intake sound mean. some cars do have ITBs and they're not turbocharged ITBs give you more air and give you superb throttle response from what I hear. But yeh like they said you probably wanna get cams and stuff with it also.

Muuwahahahaaahaaaa

Got the cams already, heheeeehee! I just need to cash and the free time to finish the set-up.

Well once I get the 60mm TB's done next week I'll be starting the work on the Quad TB setup...

Take a look at this once... www.centroidcnc.com
Thats where I work, so as you can probably guess... we have the technology....:thumbsup

Because of the disbelievers.... I'll just post pics of the Quad setup when its running... And if your going to the OH DSM meet in july then I'll prolly have it running on my car then also....

I should be at the Ohio SHoot Out, I'd love to see what you've come up with. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up over e-mail or aol IM. I'd be happy to help, since I've done some research into this.

my friend ordered their set up for his eclipse and that is the price he recieved but they wanted him to send in an intake manifold in so they could make one because they have never done it on a 420a. (they are out of australia and i dont think they have this engine down under) they'll make one for 2g's tho if anyone wants to be a guinea pig.

Uhm, i'm not ordering any performance parts for a my car from a company that has never seen our engine!

This is my first time posting but i have been looking onto the quads. Im bout to go to boot camp but after i get out i would be glad to be the test dummy for it. Would it cost a thing for me? just asking cause money is somewhat tight but the bonus im getting would help lol.

You're going to have to do a better job with checking the dates on threads if you want to get any decent results.

Not only is this thread over 5 years old, but the OP never finished this idea, stole a bunch of money from a bunch of people, and has been banned.

So ya, probably not going to get a unit to test from him for free.

Make your own.

Hint: use the search next time. This has been discussed ALOT.

Best way to go about it is a full custom manifold built from scratch.

Build it yourself. It's not hard. Google itb. Wiki itb. You'll find a shitload of info.

Foggy45 and myself have talked about several ideas but they're just that, ideas. I'm wanting to do the itb/turbo setup one day. Maybe not on my 2gnt, maybe not on my next project but definately something that didn't offer that as a stock option. *cough* rb26dett *cough*

Again, ALL CUSTOM.

It's not like we have a k20a1 that already has kits available.....

or a silver/blacktop 20 valve 4AGE that came stock with them :)
