Sorry if it's in the wrong section but it's not a tech question. I just noticed someone on craigslist selling a complete engine that is in need of a rebuild for $60. I am currently turbo on stock internals so this would be a great buy cause I can rebuild the spare engine slowly. I am just having concerns for two reasons. One is that I just did a mapquest search and the engine is almost two hours away from where I live. I don't have a pick-up truck or know someone that does and since it's kind of far away renting something would probably be tons of money. And my second concern is that the guy said the block as no physical damage but the piston has a hole in it. My question to you guys is if anyone has attempted to fit a 2g engine in the trunk and tie down the hatch, and my other question is if a hole in a piston means that internally the block may have physical damage? Sorry for the nube questions. :P

Take the passenger seat out, put a plastic container in its place, and stick it in there.

For sixty bucks I would not worry. If you are building internals then have the block bored anyway. Even if there was damage to the block the other parts are worth it.

But im fairly certain that a hole in the piston will not do catastrophic damage to the motor. At least in what ive seen from Neons.

Dude, I drove 12 hours one way to get my block and I put it in the hatch. Mine was only a short block though, not the head and everything. I got a smokin deal on one because a guy bought forged stuff but when he started the engine it wasn't in time and he bent some valves, and the threw some mains so I bought it for cheap. Took it apart, put some new bearings in it and everything checked out ok and it now has 15k on it. I say go for it.

I like the passenger seat idea, personally. They're not obscenely heavy, but you really don't want to be lifting one over that sill. If the seller has the engine disassembled somewhat, it will be easier.

For $60, find a way to snatch it up and toss it in your car.

you seriously dont know anyone with a pick up truck?

if not, you could just bring a ton of plastic wrap, wrap the crap out of it, it shoudl actually fit in the back if you were careful enough :)

Fit a whole engine in the hatch area one time. Intake on, AC on, exhaust mani on; all of it.

get a few trash bags, lay them in the hatch with some cardboard. get the engine, it will fit just fine (our engines really aren't that big)

Mission Complete! :thumbsup Just got back a little wihle ago from a 3 and a half hour drive to pick up the engine. I worked out a deal with the guy a few days ago that I would give him an extra $20 to dissasemble the motor for me to make things easier and he agreed. All I need now is an engine cart or trolley to store this bad boy in my dad's garage so I can start working on it. Anyone know a good place to pick one up for cheap?

Engine stands aren't very expensive. I paid around $50 for a brand new one.

You got a very good deal on this, I wouldn't worry about the hole in the piston if you plan on replacing them anyways.
