115541, Gas Tank Size, Gas Mileage? Posted by snake92106, May-15-08 05:33 AM
Ive tried searching around for similar problems but no luck. The most I have ever filled up was 10 Gall and thats on E. Ive replaced the fuel filter, ran some fuel injector cleaner and i still barely get 200 miles to a full tank. any suggestions? would be much appreciated. -Steven

Thats odd, I have a 97 GS and I fill her up twice a week...cost me 45$ to fill with super and I get about 350 to the tank...oh yeah and it's a 14 gallon tank.

when the car is running I average about 400 to the tank and that's around a 13 gallon fill.

I get about 400-450 per tank, I always fill up with BP premium at half, and its about 7 gallons @ 3.80 per gallon and its around 27 bucks.
So I spend about 90 dollars per month on gas.

we have 17 gal tanks (I didn't think so either at first), it'll be around 14.5 when the needle is below E, but there's a reserve capacity. I usually get around 350 miles per tank, depending on the week works out between 24-27 mpg

That's pretty good for being turbo.

I've heard of guys gettin BETTER mpg turbo than when they were n/a, and i probably would be higher but I have quite a bit of lag with the t3/t4, boggs it down a big around town. fyi my mpg's are like 1/4 city, 3/4 hwy. With a proper setup mpg's should theoretically increase because it's using the engine wasted energy from the exhaust and recirculating it back into the system. Take a look at the new Pontiac Solstice, granted the engine size varies, but the n/a version with the 2.4l gets worse mpg than the turbo 2.0l GXP, and it's 175hp n/a vs. 260hp boosted. hmmm... no brainer choice there!

I get a little over 30 mpg usually.
Fill it to the brim, run it down a ways (1/4 left ) then fill it to the brim to calculate.

i average between 18 and 22 mpg.

I've always thought we had a 16 gallon tank. Its nice to know its actually 17. I'm turbo and I get between 27-30 mpg and thats about 1/4 city 3/4 highway. I've never had a problem with bad fuel mileage in my car though.

i wish i knew, my speedometer dosnt work the dame thing broke in a way that i have to wait till i put in my lsd to fix it( take apart the trans) i put 8;1 je pistions in its but no turbo yet. most people when they drive 70mph on high way there RPMs are at 2-2 1/2 but mine is on 3. i think i would get better mpg when i get the turbo.

Hmm....got something going on there. I just drove to PA for work. Drove out there, drove around during the week, and drove back to CT (on one tank. Just about 450 miles). Got 37 to the gallon. Yeah more highway then city, but should be better than 18 to 22.
On my curent race car (that was a DD at the time) I got just shy of 40 mpg on a vacation to Vermont and back. At that time she was running 14.3 in the 1/4.
I keep her right around 70 on the highway.

Oops, this reminded me that the current daily does have a 3.55 in it. Right around 2350 to 2400rpm at 70.

Good god, I spend that much a week. Usually fill the Evo Monday Wednesday, Friday. I just filled up the eclipse on E 14+ gallons, $56 :cry
Since this is probably the first tank I'll keep track of with the larger injectors in, I'll update back, but I've always seemed to get 28-30mpg pre and post boost with stock injectors.
I don't see having a problem getting the same with a bit larger injector since the car still seems to stay right around 14.7:1 when cruising.

Does anyone have any suggestions? could my fuel pump be bad?
|
115559, RE: Gas Tank Size, Gas Mileage? Posted by RoninEclipse2G, May-22-08 01:03 PM
Bad fuel pumps will just cause the car to die, not use too much fuel. you might have a stuck injector or two, possibly a bad regulator. another thing to check is your compression, you might have bad rings or a headgasket that's causing the computer to compensate by running pig rich. :shrug

Alright so i will start with a compression test to check that and also check my injectors. Thanks.

Before overhauling was getting around 18mpg and the funny things is that here a gallon cost @ $4.80. The gasoline made on Curacao is of bad quality very bad.... The mileage you guys get wit a full tank we get with almost 2 full tanks. Because the quality is so bad the efficiency drops a lot.. Now I'm having problems with my car and am getting 10mpg or less seems impossible but yes I ain't overreacting
But it seems the turbo guys get better mpg soo I think it's a very good reason why to turbo my car.. :P:P

not if the gas is that bad down there. turbos will only make bad fuel even more noticable.

I'm running a 95 GS. 420a, 5spd, Headers and down pipe, short ram intake, Magnaflow and stock 16" rims and tires. Oh I also have an oil ring going bad, but I still manage 30mpg combined highway and city at 6K to 7K feet ASL.
My in glove box owner manual says my tank is 16.9 gal.
