What up guys, I have been turbo now for the past 6 months thanks to 2gnt, running about 7 psi lbs daily and wanted more out of my car, so I decided to send it off to a shop. After 3 weeks and 1700 later I get my car back, the bottom end and everything on the timing side is new. I also had an unorthodox pulley. Before I left the shop he told me that the belt (duralast belt) was overlapping the pulley buy a couple millimeters. I didn’t think anything about it driving down the road, because everything seemed good. The next day I take it out for a drive and I hear this loud noise coming from the engine bay and it was the timing belt. It turned out the pulley had chewed the sides of the belt off, but did not destroy the belt. Now whenever I turn my car it has this loud squealing noise and it’s hard to turn. What could he have done to prevent this and why am I getting this squealing noise? When I take my clipse back to him on Tuesday, is there a belt that will fit the grove of the pulley better than the one he had? O yeah and the engine only had 12 miles on it, good thing the belt didn't snap.

So, is it the timing belt, or the accessory belt? From the description, it sounds like an accessory belt. You sure you know what you're looking at?

your right, my bad, did the wrong belt size caused this?

more likely a misaligned pulley. If the pulley isn't ALL the way on it'll cause the pulley to jump a groove or two and chew itself to shit.

Yeah I thought it was that too, but the pulley seems to have k4 on each side vs the k5 put on the ps/ac side, I tried the butter knife method and it’s all the way on. Ever since the damn thing chewed up one rib of the belt it made it run better with 4 so idk, maybe he over tighten the belt to where the pulley cut a rib off. It just squeaks whenever I turn, turning is a little harder around sharp turns. I hope my ps didn’t go out on me!! Why is this happing loose belt? I told him to torque it to 105 lbs on the pulley so It should be alright, I don’t know what the tension setting is but she’s tight. Maybe ill just get a 49.5” k4 belt off line, since AutoZone looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for that kind of belt. Who knows maybe Napa carries 49.5” or 49” k4 belts, lol (part numbers anyone?). I know a lot of people on here have went through belts like crazy at one point and time, what bolt is it to release tension on the ps/ac belt? Location? How easy is it to get to it? Searched, found nothing but two posts and the directions were vague because I wasn’t installing the pulley. I read a post about losing up 3 bolts on the alternator, but doing so only has something to do with the tension to the alternator belt right?, so I’m lost. I was thinking knife to get the old belt off and crow bar to get a new belt on, lol.

Loose belt over the PS pulley.

Yet again…..your right, lol. I tighten up the tension and that damn squealing stopped, BUT the belt is still torn a little, I say it’s good for about another 50 or so miles before it’s done. So I fleed to Napa and ordered me a new belt and am putting it on tomorrow. But this time it’s going to be a 4 rib since I read about people having the same problem and it worked for them. How many miles do you guys recommend for braking in an engine, some say 600 some say I can put the turbo back on now and I’m just confused, tried using search but didn't find anything. Also, when I take my car out for an drive then come back and park it there’s a light smoke that comes from the engine bay, is this what happens to an new engine that was cleaned and has very low miles(16) on it? It doesn’t smell like oil and its not the head gasket, it’s a light film of smoke, is this normal for a new engine?

did you paint the engine while it was being rebuilt?

Either the shop painted it or coated it with oil and didn't clean it that well. something's burning off. if it doesn't stop after about 100 miles then I would worry.

I'd say go ahead and put the turbo on but don't build boost as much as possible.

iight thanks, i was able to go for almost a year without the boost bug biting me, its my DD, so i don't beat the s### out of it, lol.

I was just thinking less wrench time putting it back together, once the breakin is done just flush fluids and go
