11544, Rebuilding vs. New

I was just wondering which set up would be better for a furture turbo kit? The engine is a 420a, and has 90k on it now. I'm looking for a long term reliable engine, if that helps.

I rebuild with forged pistons and stronger rods will always be preferable to stock no matter what the mileage.

Listen to Gary....Rebuild is much better than a new stock engine.

yep gary knows what he's talking about. even a brand new engine is weaker than a 90,000 mile engine with forged internals in it. also cost less than a new engine plus swap time or money.

The Howell kit that is mentioned, is that everything I need or is other parts that are recommended???

If you are just looking for a stage 1 or 2 turbo system you don't even need the rebuild kit, just stock internals are fine. If you are looking to make some serious power, rebuild the bottom end with the kit, get larger injectors and a different calibration disk for the Fuel Pressure Riser and boost away!

If my car turns out low compression and I decide to boost stage II anyway, can I just use the kit if I blow it up???

>blow it up???

Blow it up as in Rod through the block. . . no.

Blow it up as in blown ring lands on stock pistons or broken rods and nothing else damaged. . . sure.

Run a stage II and then when Gary finishes the stoker throw that in and crank up the boost ;)

If I were you Id save up for the Howell Rebuild kit, 400cc injectors and Stage 2 or 3 Clutch which is what Im doing and I hope to have the $ for that stuff soon. Until then run low boost or take a chance and run no more then 8 psi. Im running 6 psi intercooled which is really safe but the intercooler is slowing me down since Im not running enough boost which is why Im saving up for the rebuild kit. Good luck w/ everything
-Dave
PS Anyone live in the MD area know a shop I should call to get my internals installed besides Extreme Motorsports and Altered Atmosphere?
