Here it goes. My dumbfuck ass broke (whatever shitty grade of hardware stock is) the head off one of my oil pan bolts. Good thing it's on the corner. I'm sure that wont leak.... Yeah right. How do i get it out?

I was installing my wally 255 i got from Slammed420a (thanks joel!).

Well. I saw that the L-bracket that holds the bottom of the pump wasn't quite long enough. ZIP TIE FTW! I put the pump in and for some reason. The passenger side of the main bracket wasn't going in so smooth. I checket to see if anything was rubbing. Nothing looked amiss so i continued to turn bolts. Snapped one of the studs right off.

Both incidents happened within 20 minutes of eachother.

I used the pussiest ratchet i have and really didn't put any muscle to it. Either that or it's all the stress i've been under lately making me break shit like like a 5 year old in a crystal store that snuck some of mom and dad's coffee. ?

How do i fix this?

FYI, all i got from joel was the fuel pump. I figured it was a direct drop in. Is there an install kit that i was supposed to know about before breaking my shit out of ignorance?

I blame the weak ass hardware more than anything else. Car designers....bleh.

for the one in the block you'll probably hafta use a LH drill bit, then an extractor if the drill doesn't take it out. Not quite sure what your problem on the fuel pump is... Been a few years since I did mine.

Ok. Well, when you lift that cover off there is another cover with 2 fuel lines going to it. Six nuts (5/16" i belive.....why use standard when everything else is fucking metric on the car?) hold that part to the tank. The fuel pump is held to that part by one L bracket, 1 rubber line and the electrical connection.

Remember those six bolts i mentioned? Well, I broke one of the studs one of those six bolts threads on to.

I punched the living shit out of my headliner and i'm sure everyone on my street could hear my temper tantrum.

i did the same thing man to my studs and mine doesn't leak so i think you should be fine on that, and for the oil pan bolt you have to get the old one out of there somehow and helicoil (sp) the hole for the new bolt

the one in the block i would definatly try and drill out, especially if it snapped right at or just below the surface.
if its just below the surface, grab a "center-punch" that is the same size as the threaded hole and it will make sure you get the drill in the center and less chance of ruining your threads.
(use a quality highspeed metal cutting bit to make this job quicker)
when i snaped my sub-frame bolts i steped up in drill sizes just to make sure i was centered and didnt go to big too fast and muck the threads.
either way i would definatly run a tap up there afterwords just to make sure you cant cross thread it.

Nothing beats using "I broke some shit" as an excuse to spend more money on tools. Tools are awesome.

I'm definately going to buy a quality bit. Broken bits suck. Especially if the drill ends up going somewhere it shouldn't as a result.

If anyone brings this up using the "search" in the future, wd40 makes excellent cutting lubricant if you dont have any handy.

the oil pan bolt should come right out. try using a pick to turn it. otherwise use a drill and easy out. It shouldnt be tight at all unless you crossthread it.

as for the fuel pump bracket....I have install numerous Walbro GSS317 and GSS342. If the bracket didnt fit, you did something wrong. Search the site, i took pictures of mine. I dont care who you are or what excuses you have so dont tell me its not your fault, the pump doesnt fit right..

As for the broken stud. your going to have to do one of two things. drill out where it is at and tak-weld a new stud in. This will require draining all the gas and cleaning the tank and filling it with water when you actually weld so i recommend a performance restoration shop doing it unless you KNOW what your doing.

OR

Drill a tiny hole at very slow speed so you dont create any heat. Use some type of spray like wd40 to keep the drill bit wet and not heat up. Install a sheetmetal screw with copious ammounts of Silicone on the threats so it doesnt leak.

OR find a new gas tank at the junkyard.

Rtv took care of the fuel pump.

It's in. No problem. dont smell any gas or anything like that.

I'll try to back that oil pan jawn out later today.

103* in south cack yesterday.

I about died making a turbo flange gasket, clocking my t-25 (which was easy since the bitch was soaking in wd40 for a couple weeks) and then bolting it to the manifold. Doubtful i'll be under my car for that long today if it's over 100 again. Damn humidity.

I never said it wasn't my fault. I'm still passing some of the blame to low-grade hardware though.

As far as your fault...I was referring to you not being able to install the pump onto the hanger correctly. Oil pan bolts break and so do those tiny little studs.

Terry, the elbow that goes around the bottom of the pump wasn't long enough. I didn't feel like drilling and tapping (looks like i have to elsewhere on the car anyway). Meh.... It's fine.


I'm totally going to bring a fan outside with me tomorrow.

Doing intercooler pipes now. Dunno if they'll be on the car in current form when i start it but i'm just trying to stay busy.
