well im gonna be looking for a scan tool to check my codes and was wondering what one you guys use or recommend for a 95 2gnt,im not sure if its considered obd2 or 1,I want a cheap simple scanner any suggestions?

Snap On MT2500. you should be able to pick up a used one on ebay for under 2000.00 and figure the asian cartridge update will be either 500 or 750 to get it updated. I have one and i must say the amount of info inside of it is amazing.

That's what I use (from our shop). I wouldn't go so far to say it's amazing, pertaining to our cars... The refresh rate sux ass but it is way better than a simply OBDII scanner. We've gotten the new 7.4 programmable card, it's got asian, domestic, generic, domestic imports, all that good stuff all in one, instead of keeping 4 cartriges around.

Its been that way for 3 years now. You havent had to keep multiple karts around since the 4.x update. Its slower due to the amount of material on the kart. Updating takes 15 mins to transfer all the new data from the dealer laptop to the actual kart. If you know how to use the scanner real well, it will do amazing things. the amount of knowledge that is wrapped up in the troubleshooter is phenominal. Try using a genesys and then tell me the SNap-on is OK.

Woah okay, someone likes to use dynamite on anthills. I think the poster would be fine with a $30 vatozone scanner.

Dynamite....no! Its called precision. If i let you sit and play with my snapon Eric....you would want one yourself. When i was a mechanic I had to have one for ABS computers, airbags, OBD all versions, ect.

To me the Vatozone scanner is a 50/50 shot for being accurate and it cant read manufacturer specific codes which 1/2 of our emmisions codes are just that. But your right, most people dont or never did work in a shop.

Its like you using an exacto knife and skinning knife for surgery!

No doubt Terry, I would love to have one of those. I'd like to get my hands on one just to understand the behavior of the stock ECU. For example, how does the ECU know there is an issue with the injectors even if you put the correct impedance on the injector output wires? It would be great for those of us who want to piggy back the stock ECU and not go MS, for the purposes of CEL-EXTERMINATION...
