we need might need a little more details on this, do you get any CEL's? does the car sputter before it dies? any type of additional info would be good.

Yup a bit more info/description. Lights stay on? Total cut-out? Slow stall? Fire right back up?

There is an ecgine lighte on due to the EGR. and it just randomly happens when im driving, no matter what gear im in. and all the lights stay on even the radio. and to turn it back on i just pull over and wait a sec and it turns right back on. The doesnt sputter at all or is not sluggish.

Start with the basics. Is it getting air, fuel, and fire? How is the fuel filter, the fuel pump?
Maybe the ASD, or Fuel pump relays on firewall as well.
Time to start testing it and stop driving it.

Wait what? What have you done to your car that it needs a fuel rail. Your descriptions are not going to get you any answers if you can't fill in the details...

did you actually inspect the wire harness that goes over the EGR tube? coolent temps high / low? does the exhaust smell funny? rich? sweet? pure gas? did you change the fuel filter when you "upgraded" your fuel system? when was the last time you changed plugs, wires, or your coil?

I'm gonna say start here. Even though the wire loom may look good you may still have burnt wires inside. Mike makes a good point on the cam plug. Loose connection can absolutely cause what you describe. The only caveat would be that you would normally throw a cel for the cam sensor (though you may be doing that now and think it might be just the egr).
From the description, I'd agree with electrical. Though I'm leaning toward break in the wire or bad connection (as opposed to a bad ground).

Shot in the dark woods, but check the tension on the harness going to yoru camshaft position sensoe. I had a problem a few years ago where my car would randomly stall out, and what was hapening was when I put a load on the engine, and it would move, it was pulling on the cam sensor harness and was starting to pull out the terminals, therefor loosing contact with the cam sensor.

On a side note, watch out for that OBX fuel rail. They are prone to popping off. I came close to torching my engine.

Mike you really know your shit for a guy running on 2 cyls :P (that was a joke, dont freak out :P)
a question about the cam shaft position sensor as you mentioned it, I recently bought and installed a reman from advanced auto. and i imediately got the code for no signal present at cam shaft position sensor. You said that it can cause it to stall, but mine ran just fine, no problems with idle. I think it was limping though as it was burning a great deal more gas than it should have been.
I realized while looking for parts for my turbo build that when we swapped in the new engine, i think i was supposed to move over the magnet, i imagine when i get back i will find it doesnt have one.
so my question is, shouldn't i be experiencing the same stalling, or is that mainly for inconsistant, or suddenly lost cam shaft pos sensor signal?
thats a pretty kick ass mani by the way.
