I cant find a 420a engine for my 97 talon anywhere in ontario, or outside thats used. I can get a rebuild...but for 3000 and i dont have 3000 to spend, any help?

No that is the motor you need. Search for a 95-99 neon DOHC. The SOHC bottom end will work but it has lower compression in it. Either motor you will need to reuse your head.

I also believe the 95-99 Cirrus, Stratus and Breeze ran that motor.

Look for a junk yard that lets you come and pull parts. My mechanic found me a running 420a for $125. The one around here is called U pull and Pay.

yeah just make sure your not getting the 2.4 liter version

Yep.. I'ts not hard to tell, other than the valve cover says 2.4, they put the intake mani. on the front with a downdraft TB. What's up with that.

Other than that I'd love to drop the 2.4 in.

Why not try ebay or craigslist.org or something like that or buy the parts you need and rebuild it

I know what you mean about finding parts in ontario. When i was looking for one for my old talon they wanted 2000 for a rebuilt engine with over 200000km on it. where in ontario are you?

Craigslist is godsend.

That's where i got my sohc low-comp block. '95 baby!

Paid 150 for it.

Check ebay, the 420A is a common engine. It is found in the talon, avenger, neon and eclipse. check local and regional junk yards and auctions. You should be able to find one in short order

you can drop a evo 4g63 engine in. Its alot of work but less then the normal 4g63 because they share the same mounts. Plan for alot of down time. Hope you are rich too.

hope you like rewiring cars and lots of welding, having custom parts made too.

just buy a GST or GSX...
or rebuild the 420A... holds boost well.
