Ok So here in Ohio we have the stupid e-Check thing that you need to pass in order to get your registration updated. Well I just realized my car was due so I went today to get it done. Well they wouldn't test my car due to the brake light being on as if my e-brake was up. This light has been on for a long time now (about 3 years) and they never gave me a problem about it before and niether did my brakes which are fine. I do not have money to take it somewhere to get looked at nor do I have the slightest idea how to fix it. I have been out of work for a month and a half and I am pretty much flat broke and screwed all around. So if anyone has any ideas for me please get back to me asap. Sorry for the slightly long post but I am just fed up with everything.

3 years huh? Lol, well I'm guessing it's not low fluid, but check anyway. Check your switch at the e-brake and your adjustment of the arm. Maybe its not hitting down the actuator or the actuator is broken. Just quick off the top of my head.

mine's been staying on a few times lately, i think the switch is just sticking. it's by the lever underneath the center console.

Thanks guys I am going to check that now....It sort of makes sense because it does come and go like a short or a bad connection....

Hey Justin, did you check your level on that?

level? like the brake fluid level? I did - and it was fine, but I knew the switch was stickin because i pulled up the lever and popped it up and down a few times and the light went off.

The brake fluid switch is very sensitive, it can cause the brake light signal to go on even if the level in the reservoir looks fine. Put more brake fluid in even though the level looks fine to you. Bet that will fix your problem.

why don't you just pull the bulb out? Then you don't have to fix anything :D

If it gets REALLY cold (20F or less) my brake light switch for the e-brake will stay on. Check the E-brake switch as it could easily be that, especially since it's Ohio and it's been cold there. It should be an easy fix if you need to replace it. Just yank off the plastic cup holders and you'll be able to get at the switch.

With my car I can move the switch with my finger or keep moving the e-brake lever and the light just stays on, then when it gets warm enough, no problem.

Where are you at in OHIO? im from dayton and i thought they did away with e-check? and like above ^^ just take the bulb out.

Bro, I have been trying to figure my brake light out for about the last four years... I tried everything. Little did I know that there is a sensor for your brake fluid level. My level was just under the middle, so not so low that it was bad, but I filled her up and vwalla! No more brake light! I can't believe that I never knew that. I have done so much to my eclipse at this point I am pretty sure that I know everything else about it. Well, I guess you really do learn something new every day.

you never flushed/filled your fluid in all that time? at maximum you shoud have only had the light on for 2 years

I did actually. That is what puzzled me the most. I flushed the brakes because I intalled some GSX callipers on the front. Well, after the flush was done there was about half a reservior there so I didn't bother topping it off. The light was still on however. It was nothing new to me, I though that there was a short somewhere. I think that my limit switch is a little too sensitive. Once I overflowed the damn thing the light went off. It may have bee stuck also. Overflowing it may have 'unstuck' it. Who knows. My brakes were great though.

take the bulb out. my check engine bulbs been out now for like 3 yrs.
