This has been a long disappointing day. I woke up the morning pumped that I was going to take care of one of my many oil leaks today (Camshaft Position Sensor). I purchased the sensor from Autozone (Duralast) which is probably the problem. Anyway, I installed it and the car runs fine and feels normal, however after running the car for a good 30 minutes, my check engine light starts to flash. Basically it's ready Random Misfire. I don't know what a misfire feels like but my car feels normal. So I make sure the sensor is plugged in firmly and torqued to the right spec and I have the same exact check engine light. At this point I'm frustrated. I go back to autozone and replace the sensor. I install the new sensor and it's the same problem. I'm starting to think this Duralast b/s is garbage or my coil/wires/spark plugs are actually bad. The spark plugs and wires are fairly new but I can't say the same for the coil. I'm not sure if it was ever replaced. Any ideas or thoughts? One other thing, when I plug in the previous CPS, I don't have this problem but it leaks like a MF. Any advice will be great!

i do not have an answer to your problem, but i can tell you i have a msd coil if you need one, just need to make sure they have the same plug ends

I'm also going to replace my oil pan gasket because it is leaking for sure. I've never had to remove the cross member so when I do this time to get to the pan, do I need to support the engine with a jack since there's a motor mount on the cross memeber?

Before you go assuming the coil or the Durlast CMP is bad, go back to the original sensor and see if the problem returns. I've bought new alternators before, only to get a block down the road before the battery dies due to the new alt being faulty. Shit happens. It could also be that you're cursed and the coil pack conveniently shit the bed on you. You reset the ECU?

As for the cross member, don't sweat it. Pull the center bolt from the front motor mount and then drop the thing. You'll also probably end up dropping or disconnecting the front exhaust pipe to get easier access to the pan, but I've heard of people getting it out and around. The trick is reaching up between the pan and the block to remove the oil pickup. ;)

This morning while driving to work, I didn't have the CEL flashing at all. This is my second crank sensor and I'm sure if that sensor was bad, my car wouldn't be turning on at all. Also, i'm pretty sure my car isn't actually misfiring. As for the coil, I do have 150,000 miles on the car and I'm sure the coil was never replaced. I think I might as well get rid of this cheap Duralast garbage (Ignition Wires) and get some MSD's.

well i will give it to you for cost of shipping, lets just make sure it is the right one you need, what type of pins do you have on your coil pack

as far as the oil pan gasket goes, just did that today, no need to drop cross member, just take out center section of exhaust pipe, and you will also need a swivel head socket(for only 2 bolts), and a little gasket sealer for corners of block then torque down to 8.5 foot pounds

Cool. I would greatly appreciate that. Changing the oil pan gasket will also give me the change to clean that area as well because it's filthy. Do you have Pay Pal? BTW, my coil pack has a flat connector not the round one.

Should I use RTV Ultra Grey on the oil pan gasket and if so, do I put it on both sides of the gasket or just in the area where the oil pan meets the oil pump?

i used just that and placed on to both sides of oil pan gasket as per service manual, and remember to torque to 8.5 and work your way out from the middle of the pan, also you will need to take down trans bracket, and those bolts torque to 80 foot lbs

I just finished installing new NGK plugs gapped at .49 and the MSD Spark Plug wires. All was well for the first 20 minutes then I got the check engine light flashing again. I will wait for my coil to come in so I can see if that will fix this issue. If not, then it definitely the new Crank Angle Sensor. I went to autozone and informed them everything that I have done and how it points to their Duralast sensor being bad all together. I told them this is the 2nd sensor I received from them because the first one did the samething. I told them I will try and replace it again and if it doesn't work, then their product needs to be taken off the shelves until it actually works. On the brighter note, I picked up some hoses at Road///Race. Those guys are pretty cool over there. Anyways here are some before and after pictures. The engine bay is still dirty but it's getting there.
