114968, Weird popping sound when i dump clutch then press brakes?
Posted by halfasss101, Jul-22-08 04:33 PM
Some of you might remember me from awhile back. My brother took my car and hit a curb while i was on vacation and it messed up the front right suspension. Bent a few control arms, tweaked the fender a bit (but not much) and its all put back together and runs smooth and no weird noises, except when i dump the clutch and then i go to push the break i hear a popping sound. My bro said he hit the curb at about 35-40mph and at about a 35 degree angle. Hit pretty hard. Anybody know what could have been stressed in the collision that could be popping after pressing brakes after dumping the clutch? It seems to do it when it rains to when its wet. all control arms were replaced but not new, they came from junkyard and so did the axle since it was bent. CV boot on axle was in very good condition so we took it anyway. Could it be bushings in a control arm or on the stabilizer bar? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Either a suspension bushing or a motor mount.

Ya i was thinking a bushing too but did not think about a motor mount. I have some prothane motor mount inserts that i'm going to put in when i put my built motor in. What is your opinion on these inserts? Do they work well considering that i have yet to see a solid motor mount for our cars? And would that fix the problem or do you think the motor mount itself could be messed up and need a new one? (Or would the insert fix it?) Thanks

The inserts work fine, I prefer filling the mounts with 3M window weld or the McMaster urethane kits. I liked the responsivenes the filling gave me but it wasn't as harsh of vibrations as the inserts were.

are the inserts going wear out quickly or do they last quite awhile? I've heard about those other ideas like you were mentioning, but i already have the inserts so i might as well use them

poly doesn't wear out like rubber does, make sure you get them in nice and snug and you shouldn't have to worry about them ever wearing out under most normal driving conditions.

thats good. I dont think its a motor mount. I'm leaning more toward a bushing in the suspension. I was going to buy the full energy suspension bushing kit. I can get it for way cheaper than normal. I can get it for like 90 bucks with free shipping. You think its worth it since i was going to get it anyway?

that's a pretty good deal, if I had money to spend I'd say hook me up

lol ya i know. I don't think he'd give me 2 sets for that price since he'd probably figure out that the other one isn't for me.
