114704, Fuel Gauge fast responding or slow?

Just a quick question about the fuel gauge. Is everyone else's slow to respond after they pull fuel in from empty? Takes about 5 mins after a fill mine up to go from E to Full. Bad sending unit or another perk of owning a DSM?

Mines slow, has been forever I think.
Also, when it gets to E, it will only take 13 gallons to fill back up :P
And just to test I have ran it for 90 miles after I hit E, its definitely off :P

yup, it's just a really slow gauge. if you ever take the gauge cluster out and play with the needles the rest of them are really quick but the fuel guage is super stiff.

Ya I usually run mine until i can't even see the needle anymore and it still only takes like 14 gallons.

^^^^I've done that :) I think I filled it up with just over 16 gallons.
spec chart says that we've got a 16.9 gallon tank O.o

Oddly, my NA gauge goes up relatively fast (the 97), but the Daily (the 96) goes up slow.

strange, mine is a 99 GS. That is weird that the 97 is quick to respond and the 96 is slow like everyone elses. You'd think that Mitsu would've made a decent fuel gauge. Every other car i have seen goes straight up to full right when the key is turned to "on" position right after a fill up. That doesn't really bother me as much as it not being accurate. I still have like 4.5-5 gallons left when i fill up right on E. Even when i can't see the damn needle it still has 3 gallons left.

Avengers and Sebrings do the same thing. They are slow to rise as well.

hmmm....... guess they all used the same exact parts as mitsu did. You'd think they would've used a different one after they figured out it was slow and inaccurate.

often times car manufacturers will use a "slow" gauge to prevent floating and bouncing of the needle as the fuel sloshes around in the tank. if you've ever noticed the dummy light for the low fuel level flicker on hills/acceleration/braking, you can see how much the level around the float can change. a slow gauge will give you a better "average" fuel level.
