i think i have hit that spot with my car that i either need to ditch or push through.

i thought i was doing good last year when i tore down the car to repair body work and rebuild the engine to stock while i rebuilt my turbo system after frying my turbine.

soo nice rebuild nice pretty new paint, things are looking up.

then this fall hits . . .
the IAT problem has crept up and im trying to solve that. then i have a strange missfire keep creeping up on me, then the studder aceleration started. so i started planning out a new fuel setup. the whole GSX exhaust thing almost sent me through the wall, eventhough i got it to work it still sucks and dosent look clean and it sits too low that it scrapes on things so im afraid that sometime im gonna hit somthing and rip everything from the header back straight off the car.
my suspension started squeaking and i notice the front drives shock has an oil leak, so i need a new setup for that. and while looking at those, i discovered rotted bushings on like 80% of the mounts. yeah more parts
then the clutch master cylinder went out and ruined my carpet and that had to be replaced.

then after the first snow . . . THIS


the one time my car sits out during work and gets cold was the night it was well below zero then i have to drive through the crappy plowed neighborhood where everything is now chunks of ice and not snow anymore. i hear crack and find pieces hanging off the front bumper.
so now i have a totaled front bumper and now my $5K paint job looks like ass because of a fucked bumper.


so now i have a nice pile of turbo parts sitting in the garage waiting to go in and im now thinking about ditching the whole car and saying fuck it, im out.

i dont know what to do, so i pose it to you guys to help me along
do i bail and part out? or do i spend the money to make it right?

Dont give upppp man. We've all been there. I was there last winter pulling my engine in my garage when it was like 15 degrees knocking my knuckles swearing like a mofo. And I knew even when I got my engine finally out i wouldnt be able to drive my car for months which evenually ended up to be 8 months of saving up money. lol and i remember when I first came on here you helped me out alot. If you need to just take a step back, breathe, drink some beer and get back at it tomorow. Remember, we do drive dsm's.

I think that bumper committed suicide if you ask me. Go back to stock front bumper. Keep building up the car. Easy enough.

Consider this a valuable lesson learned: $5000 paint jobs should be reserved for cars that never see inclement weather. Fiberglass monstrosities are not deserving of said $5000 paint jobs either.

Stock front bumper, continue repairs and modifications.

Yup, just went through this with my kid's car (96 GS-T convert). We took out his walked, built 7 bolt almost a year and a half ago. Changing it to 6 bolt we ran into a bunch of obstacles (my time, his time, wrong parts, not enough parts, defective parts etc.). About 8 months in, it was a bitch fest. "I hate this fuckin' car" "I can't wait to get this done so I can dump it" "I'm gonna push it out on the road and just leave it there" blah, blah, blah. I just kinda chuckled and moved on, knowing what the eventual outcome would be.

We got her done a couple of months ago and after the first 2 minute ride "God I love this car", "I'm never getting rid of my baby" blah, blah, blah, lol.

It usually takes some hardship to really appreciate something.

I have those moments too. Ask most of the people in chat, I have said im selling the car about twelve times now. Even listed it for sale twice. I never could sell it.

I can think of at least different occasions where I had a breaker bar in hand and just wanted to destroy the car where it sat. Pressed on, though.

I was really feeling the same way after the fire took out my engine/head that was being rebuilt to get the car running again. I almost started ripping the thing apart to part it out. I'll get the car running again, because even though I have other cars that are fun to drive and I enjoy them, my Eclipse is the only car that "fits" me.

i was actually thinking of either the 2GB conversion or grabing a BC2 front.

Fix it! I know how you feel. My car was a pile of crap when i got it, but i wanted it no matter what. So after about $3000 and several months of labor after saving up for piece after piece, it finally came together and now looks like a pretty clean car (minus the key marks on driver door :( guess somebody got jealous lol). I'm sure you know the feeling after its finished after putting hours and hours into it. Not too many things feel that good after you pour all the sweat and tears into it. Just think of how you'll regret it down the road if you ditch the car now. I can bet that you would be kicking yourself in the ass somewhere down the road. I can't really ever see letting my car go or selling it. The day it goes, will probably be the day i can't find parts for it anymore. New stock bumper, repair it, get it running. You'll be glad you did. ;)

Maybe you just need a timeout from the car for awhile? :shrug Give it a rest, save up some cash here and there, and then come back to it.

Eventually, everyone goes through a period where everything seems like its crashing down with their car...all the money spent, something breaks, and then something else breaks, mystery problems that come and go. You gotta dig deep and push through.

OK, so what I've gotten from this thread so far is your front bumper sucks balls, you're a wuss, and you spent too much money on your paint job.

Recommendations are that you get drunk and sit idly by to stare at your car while nothing happens to it.

End results seem to be that you will be happy.
